It’s been a while, so I thought I’d re-introduce myself.
I’m Jolie, the head kickboxing coach at Kinetic Martial arts. I’ve been training in kickboxing for about 22 years and I started teaching kids in 2010. I set up Kinetic in 2011 when my old training buddy Gary opened Chelmsford City Martial Arts centre. I’m now a 5th Dan black belt in kickboxing. I also have my first degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu where I teach at my club

The club has gone from strength to strength, increasing the kids classes and adding adults classes.

Over the years I have graded 14 people to their black belt and our highest grades are June & Gemma who are second Dan’s, and Thomas who also gained his second Dan with me. Ive been teaching Thomas since he was 4 years old and now he’s 19!

June & Gemma teach a brilliant Tuesday class and they step in to cover when I need time off.
Gemma has just started teaching a SEN kids class on Thursdays at 5pm and June completed her BSc (Hons) in sports and fitness coaching this year.

Every class has coaches and junior coaches to help build the confidence of kids and adults alike. The one thing I’ve always focus on with kickboxing, is the enjoyment of the martial art. Every class is fun, so the hard work doesn’t feel like hard work, and progress is made in every class.

We run two gradings per year for new belts and every month the kids get to work towards earning their badges.

Kickboxing can also act as the physical assessment for a child taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh award, so worth getting in touch if your child will be taking part.

For more information about the classes you can DM me direct.

Today I had the pleasure of teaching the year 9’s at Great Baddow high school in Chelmsford. Annabelle came to help as she was a former student and is my super Uke assistant.
We taught them last year and they said that it was the highlight of their day, and they literally booked us in for this year, a whole year in advance.

I taught about situation awareness. Understanding and being fully aware of your surroundings as so many people these days have got their ears blocked with ear buds or headphones and looking down at their phones walking along the streets.

200-300 phones are reported stolen EVERY DAY in london, and I bet the majority are just snatched out of the hands of those who aren’t aware or watching the dangers surrounding them.

I also added a section about situations, places and people, not feeling right. Using the gut instinct, because of it doesn’t feel right, it’s probably wrong.

A lot of the self defence I teach derives from Brazilian jiu jitsu and sharing that with 13/14 year olds to help them leave the session, better than when they started.
We taught 240 students across the whole day. One girl was one of my kick boxers, another girl used to train with me a few years ago, as did her brother. I talked to a girl who does karate and a boy who’s been doing BJJ for a year.

I find it astonishing how few take part in any kind of martial arts. Yet it’s the one thing that can help build confidence, resilience and could help an individual get out of a bad situation.

To the brilliant teacher Mr Faulkner, who organises these days for the year 9’s, you honestly have their best interest at heart. I wish all school would invest in outside clubs to come and make a positive impact on their students.

As much as my brain feels a little fried, I thoroughly enjoyed teaching at the school today. Always passing on the knowledge in the hope it sticks, or simply just plants a seed.

This is a typical Saturday in the 10 years + class at 12pm every week. We had loads of fun with the superman punch and great to see everyone use it in sparring.

If you’re in Chelmsford and would like to try the adults, teens or kids class, get in touch.

Today I passed my 5th Dan kickboxing black belt assessment. Teaching and training at the HQ with Sifu Frank, Mark, Lee & Emma.

It was an absolutely pleasure to help push the pace of the STMA club through their own grading, train myself, teach my style of kickboxing and add it some self defence.

I started kickboxing in 2004. It was something I wanted to do for many years before, but martial arts wasn’t in every town like it is today. I moved to a new town and a leaflet came through my door. I went to the gym, signed up without even trialing a class first.

I’m a fiercely loyal person, so when there’s something I enjoy, I dedicate so much time in my life to get good at it.
Twenty two years later I have my own club as well as
My first student joined my club at 4 years old and this year he will be 19. I’ve graded 13 people to black belt over the years, 8 still train with me and 3 are now 2nd Dan’s.

Building my club from the foundations is something I’m immensely proud of. Every black belt was also a white belt at my club. I haven’t bought and paid for coaches to come in from outside, we are home grown, organic and a family that has grown together.

Everyone puts in the hard work to help build from the ground up, for each student who comes through the door and trusts us to help them achieve their goals.
Gemma and June have both branched out teaching their own classes and their students come back to grade with us at Kinetic.
We have a strong team of coaches and junior coaches who love being able to give back.

Today was incredible and I’m truly grateful to be awarded my 5th Dan. The aim is always to inspire my students and keep having fun on the journey.
