Active Essex

Active Essex We want to support you to find your moment, Find Your Active, and move for your mind.
(1)

We live in a world where we are saturated with quick fixes for positive wellbeing, but one solution has quietly stood the test of time – movement. Active Essex is the official body for sport in Greater Essex and is recognised by Sport England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Our role is to ensure that everyone in Greater Essex has the opportunity to take part in sport at the level

that they want to. We believe that you should be able to fulfill your sporting ambitions however big or small, so whether that's winning gold in the Olympics, kicking a ball around with your friends or swimming your first length of the pool, Active Essex is here to help you. If we can convince you to do more of this, more often and get you that bit fitter on the way then we'll be all the happier for it!

The Coach Core Apprenticeship programme returns in late 2026, offering young people a pathway into sport and physical activity!

We’re looking for local organisations to get involved by mentoring and supporting young people aged 16–24 yrs, particularly those not in education or employment, through the Level 2 Community Activator Coach apprenticeship.

We’re keen to work with organisations that are trusted in their communities and passionate about helping young people thrive through sport and active lifestyles!

This , and following , Dave’s story is a powerful reminder of just how life‑changing being active can be 🚲

Cycling gave Dave more than a way to move, it helped him feel connected, rebuild his confidence and protect his wellbeing. His journey shows the real impact of a preventative approach, where small, consistent movement can build strength, resilience and hope.

When Dave was diagnosed with incurable cancer, that foundation meant he was fit enough for life‑saving treatment. Now in remission, he’s still riding, and inspiring others to keep going, whatever their starting point.

This we’re highlighting how time by the water can boost mental and physical wellbeing from a gentle seafront walk to trying something new on the water.

Through our Find Your Active: Move for Your Mind campaign, we’re encouraging everyone to get moving in ways that feel good, while staying safe.

Together with partners across Greater Essex, we’re creating more opportunities for people to build confidence, stay active and safely enjoy our coastlines, rivers and waterways.

Men’s Health Week matters because, every year, it shines a light on something too often pushed into the background: men’s wellbeing. Across the UK, men are still far less likely to ask for help, far more likely to struggle in silence, and more likely to face serious health issues, both physical and mental. This week is a reminder that looking after ourselves isn’t weakness; it’s survival. It’s strength. And it’s long overdue.

Mentality began as a simple idea between friends Josh and Nathan, and has since grown into a lifeline for local men in Rayleigh who need a safe, pressure free space to talk, connect, move, and feel understood.

From mindfulness and check ins, to boxing, self defence and guest speakers, Mentality offers a place where men can breathe again. As participant Tommy said, “For the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel invisible.”

This Men’s Health Week, let’s break the silence. Let’s remind the men in our lives that they don’t have to ‘just get on with it’. Sometimes the smallest step makes the biggest difference.

Designed to build knowledge and upskill organisations and individuals, on areas identified through the place-based research and insight gathering. If you haven't managed to join the seminars, don't worry, they're all added to our library and you can watch them back here: https://www.activeessex.org/your-essex-community/learning-series/
