⚽️ HEALTHIER, HAPPIER & TOGETHER

Walking football might look like a game, but its impact goes much further.

Our Social Value Report estimates that the EWWFL creates £274,733 in annual wellbeing benefits for our players and volunteers.

That includes the value of:

😊 Feeling happier
🧠 Improved mental wellbeing
👟 Staying physically active
🤝 Building friendships
🙌 Having a sense of belonging
⚽️ Having something to look forward to every week

We currently have 201 regular players aged over 40 and 34 regular volunteers contributing to our league community.

And while you can't put a price on friendship, confidence or feeling part of something, the Social Value analysis gives us a way of demonstrating just how significant those benefits can be.

Our estimated wellbeing impact alone represents the biggest part of the EWWFL's overall social value.

So when someone asks, “Isn’t it just walking football?”

⚽☀️ EWWFL 2026 TASTER DAY ☀️⚽

The sun was shining, the referees were well turned out and eight teams arrived ready to battle it out in our 2026 Taster Tournament!

We were delighted to welcome three new teams to the EWWFL Taster Day; Southend, Chelmsford City and Foxash, who all joined us for what was a fantastic day of football.

The tournament was played in a brilliant spirit, with some great football, plenty of competitive games and, most importantly, lots of smiles and enjoyment from everyone involved. 🙌⚽

🏆 Congratulations to Chelmsford City

Our debutants were the clear winners on the day, finishing with a perfect record of 7 wins from 7 games and an impressive +15 goal difference. If today is anything to go by, Chelmsford will certainly be a force to be reckoned with when the 2027 season gets underway!

A huge well done to all eight teams who took part. Thank you for helping to make the EWWFL 2026 Taster Day such a fantastic occasion.

We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did and we look forward to seeing you again!

It should be a fantastic morning of football, fun and hopefully plenty of new faces discovering what women’s walking football is all about. 💪⚽️

Only moulded studs are permitted on the 3G playing surface. This is a requirement set by the venue and, unfortunately, we cannot make any exceptions to this rule.

Please note that the café will NOT be open, so please come prepared with sufficient drinks/liquids to keep yourselves hydrated throughout the morning.

Hill Rovers Women’s over 40’s Walking Football Team are looking for a coach....

Women across Essex who are approaching menopause, currently experiencing it or have already been through it are being invited to join together for a supportive Essex County FA ‘Menopause & Movement’ Session at Great Baddow High School in Chelmsford on Friday 11th September (from 7:00-9:00pm).

The event aims to create an opportunity to connect with others and share experiences in a welcoming environment, combining movement with conversation and practical insight, helping attendees to feel connected, supported and positive. A 45-minute movement activity will form part of the session, alongside a 40-minute workshop offering an opportunity to learn more about menopause and discuss some of the experiences associated with it. ⚽️ FOOTBALL DOESN’T HAVE AN EXPIRY DATE. 💙

One of the things we are incredibly proud of at the Essex Women’s Walking Football League is the age range of the women playing in our league.

Our 2026 registration figures tell a fantastic story:

👟 201 registered players

⚽️ 39 players aged 40–45
⚽️ 43 players aged 46–50
⚽️ 42 players aged 51–55
⚽️ 42 players aged 56–60
⚽️ 22 players aged 61–65
⚽️ 13 players aged 66+

That means 59% of our players are aged 50 or over, with 35 players aged 61+.

And the growth has been incredible.

But this isn't just about numbers. It's about women continuing to play, compete, make friends, stay active and be part of a team.

Whether you've played football all your life, haven't kicked a ball since school, or discovered walking football later in life, there is still a place for you on the pitch.

Our oldest players prove that age is no barrier to having a love for the game. ❤️⚽️

40, 50, 60 or beyond… why should the football stop?

This is women’s football.
This is walking football.
This is the EWWFL. 💙
