“I know my child is struggling… I just don’t know how to help.”

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone.

Many children find it hard to explain their worries, fears, or big emotions—and as parents, it can be hard to know where to start.

That’s exactly why I’ve created the Wise For My Size Book Club 🌿

Through story, gentle conversation and simple activities, we help children:
✔ Understand their feelings
✔ Build confidence
✔ Feel safe to express themselves

And you’ll leave with tools to keep those conversations going at home.

Here is an article I wrote for ND360Hub about supporting children with anxiety.

After the half-Term Break, Anxiety Grows
For many neurodiverse children, the transition back to school after a half-term break can trigger heightened anxiety, from changes in routine to sensory overwhelm, social pressure, and feelings of being “different.”

In this month’s ND360 Hub magazine, children’s coach Wendy Miller shares how her coaching work helps anxious children understand their feelings, regulate their emotions, and take small, practical steps toward self-confidence.

“My role is to shine a light on these thoughts, feelings and emotions — and to help children see them in a new, more positive way.”

In one powerful example, Wendy supported a 13-year-old autistic boy who had withdrawn from his peers. By exploring his world through his senses, setting manageable goals, and creating a calming toolkit, they were able to build his confidence and reduce his anxiety about daily challenges.

You can find Wendy on the ND360 Hub, where she supports families navigating transitions, anxiety, and neurodivergent experiences.

Wendy’s 3 Tips for Supporting Anxious, Neurodiverse Children:

1️⃣ Normalise feelings – remind them anxiety is valid and human
2️⃣ Use small steps – break tasks down to make them manageable
3️⃣ Create a toolkit – from breathing to movement, find what soothes them

Today I have been sweeping up leaves. I love Autumn and all of the colours that it reveals. Whilst I was looking at all of the leaves I was gathering, I was reminded of this quote, and how important it is that we let go in order to move on. This is something that I help children to do in my sessions.

For me I am letting go of what I cannot control. What are you letting go of?

🌟 Exciting news to share 🌟

Over the summer, I worked hard towards a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism – and I’m so pleased to say my certificate has just arrived!

This feels like a really meaningful step in my journey. I’ve spent 20 years teaching, including time in an SEND school, I’m a parent to two neurodiverse children, and I’ve had the privilege of coaching many children with SEND and neurodiversity. I know first-hand both the challenges families face in accessing the right support and the struggles children can have in understanding themselves and fitting in.

That’s why I’m passionate about making my work as inclusive as possible. My group sessions are open to all, and I also provide tailored 1-1 coaching to meet individual needs.

Every child deserves to feel understood, supported, and celebrated for who they are. Get in touch to find out more.

I am still buzzing from last night's group in Uttoxeter. It was only our second session, but the children worked so well together and worked really hard to remember Shannon's expectations that 'Its ok not to know' and ' 'There's no right or wrong answer.'

👉We played some Let's Get Started games.
👉Read and discussed our book, The Worry.
👉The children took it in turns to be in the hot and to 'walk in the shoes' of the characters from the book.
👉 Explored how worry feels in their bodies.

All the children that have come along for a trial are coming back for more sessions! 🥳

We have sessions in Uttoxeter and Stoke-on-Trent.

How is everyone doing this Friday?

We’re two weeks into the new school term here, and I’ve been hearing from families I’ve worked with that—on the whole—it’s been a positive start.

In my own home though, it hasn’t been quite so smooth. My youngest son has found school attendance tough, and supporting him through this has been a challenge. As a children’s coach and a parent, it’s a reminder that none of us have it all figured out, and progress can look different for every child.

This week’s wins for me have been celebrating the days he’s managed to attend school, and reconnecting with the wonderful children in my group sessions.

💬 I’d love to hear from you—what have been your challenges and wins this week?
