Ok so I haven’t been posting as much recently.
Of course I’ve been busy with clients, but if I’m honest, there’s also been so much negativity online lately that I felt I needed to stop myself from constantly reading rubbish all the time.

Now, as many of you know, I’m dyslexic, so books have never really been my thing.
My brain wanders far too much and I get distracted easily, plus when I’m like that I don’t absorb the information properly anyway.
I could be reading and then get distracted by a fly and completely forget what I’m doing… my clients see this first hand 🤣🤣

But recently I said to myself that I want to at least make more of an effort to pick up a book, just something that genuinely interests me.

I’ve always quite liked Stoic philosophy.
Over the past few months, even just listening to short podcasts and watching videos on it has actually changed my outlook on certain parts of life. It’s helped me react to situations and people in a calmer, better way at times too.

So I thought I’d grab this book.
Daily reads, simple to pick up, and something I’m genuinely interested in, which hopefully keeps me engaged.

Little reminder really… self development doesn’t always have to be massive life changes. Sometimes it’s just making small efforts to improve your mindset, your habits, or the way you respond to life day by day 😊

Movement is medicine… but only if we actually move through the ranges our body was designed for.

One thing I’ve been studying a lot more over the past couple of years is how important it is to train movement in different positions and ranges, not just the “safe looking” neutral positions we are often taught as PTs.

A good example is the Jefferson Curl (pictured).
A movement many trainers avoid or discourage completely.

Now obviously, if loaded badly, progressed too quickly or done with someone who isn’t ready for it, it can become an issue… just like ANY exercise can.

But when built up gradually and correctly, movements like this can have huge benefits:

✅ Improves spinal mobility and control

✅ Strengthens muscles in lengthened positions

✅ Builds resilience through ranges people usually avoid

✅ Can improve hamstring flexibility

✅ Helps the body become less fearful of bending and flexing

✅ Improves body awareness and coordination

✅ Encourages adaptability rather than rigidity

The body is incredibly adaptable.
But modern training can sometimes become too focused on rigid, static movement patterns only.

“Neutral spine” absolutely has its place, especially when lifting heavy loads.
But the spine is also designed to MOVE, flex, rotate and adapt.

The problem is many people never train these positions, so the body becomes weaker and more vulnerable there.

Avoiding movement completely doesn’t always make someone safer.
Sometimes it just makes them less prepared.

That’s why with many clients I gradually introduce controlled movements in ranges they aren’t used to, at a level suitable for THEM.

The goal isn’t to force extreme mobility.
The goal is to build confidence, strength and resilience through more of the body’s natural movement capabilities.

Strong AND adaptable is the aim 👌

Big thank you to everyone who joined us for this morning’s group walk at Bluebell Hill 😃

It was definitely a warm one by the end, so fair play to everybody who came along and got it done 💪

Great conversations and a really positive atmosphere throughout the morning.

These walks have been something I’ve organised since COVID, originally just to help get people outdoors, moving more, and connecting with others, and it’s brilliant to see them still bringing good people together now 🙏

For anyone new to Walk & Talk Medway, we organise one group walk each season, usually on a Sunday morning.
Every route is different, some more relaxed, some a bit more challenging but they’re always about movement, mindset, fresh air, and community.

Next walk will likely be around mid/late summer, so keep your eyes peeled 👀

Haven’t really posted much training content lately 😀

I think when you’ve got so much going on, sometimes you forget to do the little things… like grabbing a quick photo during a session 😅

One of today’s sessions with Christine 💪🥊
A bit of pad work mixed in with hill runs, definitely got the heart rate up!
We monitored her heart rate each round to make sure we were working at the right intensity while still recovering properly between efforts.

Simple sessions like this can be absolutely brutal… but also really rewarding 🔥👏

Don't forget , our group walk at Blue Bell Hill!

📍 Meeting point: Blue Bell Hill Viewpoint (picnic site), ME5 9RG
📅 Sunday 24th May
🚶‍♂️Just over 5k

We’ll meet in the main car park at 8:30am, ready to set off no later than 8:45am.

The walk will be anti-clockwise from the viewpoint, heading down towards Burham and back up. Expect steps, steep hills, and mixed terrain, some parts a bit uneven, so it may be challenging for some.

Please wear suitable footwear, grippy trainers or walking boots are recommended.

Dogs are welcome, but we ask they’re kept on leads.

There are no toilets on site, but afterwards you can head to Squirrels Riding School (Nutkins Café) where there are toilets, drinks, and some great cake 😊

Any questions, just drop me a message.

Hope to see you there!

My own training has taken a bit of a knock back over the past few weeks. Sessions have been limited, eating has been a bit of a struggle, and I’ve lost over a stone… which for me definitely isn’t ideal 😅

But this is also part of life. Not every phase is about pushing hard, smashing PBs, or being at 100%. Sometimes it’s about adapting, resetting, and slowly building yourself back into your normal routine again.

The important thing is I haven’t stopped. I’m gradually bringing training back in, increasing my food intake again, and getting back to feeling stronger physically and mentally 💪

Setbacks happen to all of us. Progress isn’t always a straight line. What matters is keeping perspective and continuing to move forward, even if it’s slower than usual.

Temporary setbacks don’t define you. How you respond to them does 👊

“Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.”

So many people tell themselves they need more motivation to get healthier, fitter, or happier.

But the truth is, motivation is unreliable.
Discipline is what changes lives.

We don’t rely on motivation to brush our teeth, go to work, pay bills, or look after our responsibilities. We do those things because they’ve become part of our routine and our standards.

Your health should be treated the same way.

If you want to improve your health, fitness, confidence, or mindset, but continue putting temporary comforts and poor choices before your long-term wellbeing, then it’s probably not motivation holding you back…
It’s discipline.

Real progress is built from the small actions we repeat consistently.
The walks.
The workouts.
The better food choices.
The earlier nights.
The decision to keep going even when you don’t feel like it.

Sit down with yourself and remind yourself WHY you started.
Your mind is incredibly powerful, and the story you repeatedly tell yourself matters.

You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to keep showing up.

Because in the end, discipline will take you places motivation never could.

Nice little set up this morning for the gents class at The French Hospital ☺️
-Step boxes
-Medicine balls
-Dumbbells
-Resistance bands

We focused on building strength and improving stability, keeping things simple, effective, and tailored to the group. It’s great to see the effort and consistency each week, it really does make a difference 💪

Looking forward to getting another class started from next week for the ladies as well 😃

Weighted walk with some of my clients at Capstone this morning 😃

Was just over 5k, forgot to fire up the app before we started 🤦🤣

Definitely looking forward to doing another!
And it's another great way to get clients to meet each other too.

Not all training needs to happen in a gym.

As a mobile PT, I bring everything to you, kettlebells, battle ropes, slam balls, dumbbells, resistance bands, and even some kickboxing style pad work 👊

But more importantly, I bring a style of training that actually means something.

I focus on movement and functional strength.
Helping your body move better, feel stronger, and stay capable long term.
It’s not about smashing yourself every session…

It’s about building real strength, confidence, and resilience.

I’ve worked with many different individuals over the years, but a lot of the women I coach come to me wanting to feel stronger and more confident in their own body, and that’s exactly what we build.

Simple. Effective. Real world training.
If that sounds like something you need, feel free to drop me a message.
