The pitch was in excellent condition under clear, sunny skies, and despite having only one substitute, Moretti fielded a strong squad.

Passing, however, proved inconsistent throughout, with several balls overhit. Moretti started positively, while Misterton won a few early corners that were well defended. Around 15 minutes in, Ethan latched onto a through pass but struck early, sending his effort over the bar. Ten minutes later, Louka P found himself in a similar position and produced a good shot past the keeper, only to see it come back off the crossbar. Shortly after, Harry attempted an effort from a tight angle, but his shot drifted wide.

Moretti continued to press and controlled large parts of the first half. A cross eventually found Noah at the back post, but his attempt also went over the bar. At halftime, the score remained 0โ€“0.

The second half began in a similar fashion, with plenty of energy but a lack of precision in passing. Moretti created a couple more chances but couldnโ€™t convert. As the half progressed, Misterton grew into the game and made their breakthrough around the 25-minute mark. A long ball over the top released their left winger, who delivered a cross for the opposite winger to finish emphatically, making it 1โ€“0.

Moretti pushed hard for an equaliser and created several opportunities, but Misterton remained resolute and defended well. In the end, it was a deserved win for Misterton, with missed chances proving costly for Moretti.

With a week off ahead, the team can enjoy a well-earned rest before the cup final next Friday at Forton, where they face Forton in hopes of securing back-to-back Division Cup victories. Up the Morettis!

The Morettis faced South Petherton Reserves in the league, the current table toppers who beat the Morettis 6โ€“1 in the opening game of the season. South Petherton came into the match on a 13-game winning streak, but the Morettis arrived hoping to cause a major upset.

The opening 15 minutes were evenly contested, with both sides creating half chances but neither able to find the breakthrough. Around the 20-minute mark the deadlock was broken. A long throw from Ethan Gould on the left wing caused problems in the box. Louka and Ben shielded the ball as it bounced through to Harry Darch on the six-yard line, who calmly slotted it through the keeperโ€™s legs to make it 1โ€“0.

Just five minutes later the goal was almost repeated. Another long throw from Gould found Darch in the penalty box. He brought it down neatly and finished well to double the lead at 2โ€“0.

The Morettis struck again shortly after. A high press forced an error from South Pethertonโ€™s holding midfielder, who passed straight to Darch. He quickly played Louka Parkman through, and Louka finished confidently to make it 3โ€“0 going into half time.

The Morettis started the second half with the same intensity, creating several chances before the fourth finally arrived. A long ball was played over the defence and Darch raced in behind, controlled it, rounded the keeper and slotted home to complete his hat-trick and make it 4โ€“0.

The final key moment came when South Petherton crossed to the back post. Owen first saved a header before reacting quickly to stop the follow-up shot as well, producing a brilliant double save to preserve the clean sheet.

Full time: Morettis 4โ€“0.

Skipper for the day Noah had agreed after a few sherberts the night before that if Darch scored a hat-trick he would shave his head โ€“ and a deal is a deal, so weโ€™ll keep you posted on the result of the trim.

A huge result for the Morettis and arguably the best football weโ€™ve played, putting us joint top of the league with South Petherton. Next up: Misterton.

Quick reminder that the Morettis quiz night is at the Kings Head with a 7pm start after the game โ€“ everyone is welcome.

Up the Morettis!
