Chard United res 6-1 Netherbury

The reserves welcomed the high flying league leaders Netherbury to Jocelyn park on Wednesday.

Game started off fairly equal with both sides knocking the ball around well but Netherbury drew first blood after a slight lapse in concentration by the reserves who allowed netherbury to go 1-0 up, Ben stevens then took a whack so Owen Ford was introduced of the bench in a unfamiliar attacking midfield role, and didn’t take long for him to make a impact with him equalising for the reserves with a goal from a free kick.

From that moment chard were relentless with their pursuit for more goals, Rees loveridge added the next goal with a calm finish after his pace caused the netherbury back line lots of problems, Connor Hunt got the next goal with the a well placed header to make it 3-1, chard continued to pressure netherbury with the pace of the front 3 of Connor, Wael and Rees causing all sorts of problems for netherbury.

A goal from Lee Davis made it 4-1, followed quickly by a goal from Wael Elkahla then another good finish from Rees loveridge to make it 6-1 at the final whistle.

Stand in manager Parr said “ it was a great performance against a team flying at the top who haven’t lost in the league in 5 months, every player on the pitch today was outstanding, pace from the front caused lots of problems, the hard work from the midfield trio which kept netherbury from building a momentum, and the solidness of the back 4 and goalkeeper sured it all up! Special mention to the CB duo of Lee Davis and Alan Mansell who were immense today”

Chard United Res 2-0 Thorncombe

On Wednesday the reserves welcomed in form Thorncombe to Jocelyn for a fiery affair. This fixture always has a lot riding on it given the history between the two sides and United were targeting all 3 points after Thorncombe cancelled on us last minute earlier in the season.

Game started off quite even with both teams knocking the ball around well, but the breakthrough came after Dan Scriven played an inch perfect ball to put in Jamie Brown who’s pace beat the thorncombe CBs then a well taken finish to 1-0, thorncombe started to take control of the game playing some good football but fortunately for the reserves they grabbed the next goal after some good play by Rees Loveridge down the right hand side who set up Alan Mansell who scored a superb finish from outside the box right into the top corner to make it 2-0 just before the break.

Second half was very even with both sides creating chances, playing good football, making some hard tackles and some cynical fouls but ultimately the United back line denied a Thorncombe fight back securing a very well deserved 3 points.

It was a brilliant, hard working performances from the reserve players and we hope the result continue as we come into the business end of the season.

Ilminster Res 3-1 Chard United 1st

Chard travelled to play a strong Ilminster Reserve side on Saturday in their final game of the season and although coming away with a loss put in a solid brave performance.

1st half started fairly evenly with both teams settling well seeing plenty of the ball and creating chances. Chard came closest to start with. A through ball found Chard's goal machine Owen Ford to take him through 1 on 1 with the keeper but sadly couldn't find the back of the net. Then again came even closer when Jake Davey had an incredible strike which seemed to be destined for the back of the net but unfortunately deflected off an Ilminster defender. Unfortunately for Chard the deadlock was broken when a mistake at the back meant Ilminster could take advantage of this and score the opener. 10 minutes before half time unfortunately Leon had to come off due to injury so Chard had to use their 1 and only sub of the day. Shortly afterwards Ilminster were awarded a questionable penalty for handball to which they scored and made it 2 nil for half time.

2nd half the lads were looking to bounce back and shortly into the 2nd half managed to pull one back when Jake with an incredible run managed to then find super sub Josh Wilmington to fire home a well taken finish to bring it back to 2-1! This pushed the lads on and Chard looked to be putting some real pressure on Ilminster to try and gain an equaliser but unfortunately with many of chances could not seem to find the back of the net! With 20 minutes left to go it looked set to be a really tight end to the game but unfortunately stand in right back Ethan who was doing a fantastic job got injured. With no subs left to bring on it meant Chard had to play the final 20 minutes with 10 men. As much as the lads worked tirelessly to try and stay in the game and still managing to get a couple more chances but unable to finish, it all became too much and Ilminster managed to get their 3rd and final goal of the day to seal the 3 points.

Manager Pink had this to say-'I was under no illusion this was going to be a really tough game. With only having 12 players available and coming up against a strong Ilminster side with a very big squad it indeed was a hard day. But I had the confidence and faith in the lads and they put on a fantastic performance against a team who are going to probably go on and win the league. I feel the result being 3-1 probably didn't reflect the game entirely and on another day I think the lads would of put away the chances and things could have been different, but its always easy to say that after. On the day it was an absolutely huge performance from all of the lads with the grit and determination to not go down without a fight was really good to see. Big performances from Ethan, Jamie, Gav and Rees but especially to Jake who probably had the performance of his season to be able to do what he done against a team like Ilminster is really impressive.

I would like to wish Owen all the best being the current top scorer in the league, I hope it stays that way for him! But regardless of whether it does or not he has had a fantastic season with many of top top goals and to be up there in a team that has struggled a lot this season is really good to see and shows quality.

I'd like to finish by thanking all of the players for the effort they have put in for me since I took over as interim and to come from where we were with 8 games remaining to of won 5 drawn 1 and lost 2 is something we can be extremely happy with. Who knows what the future holds but I hope to see this team stick together and see what can be achieved next season!'

United make history!

South Petherton 1sts 2-5 Chard United 1sts.

The lads took a trip to South Petherton and came away with all 3 points on Saturday. South Petherton have been our long standing bogey team and for years have dominated us in the head to head stats but this season the lads made history by beating Pethy twice in a season which is a club first!

First half started with Chard settling into the game really well and creating many of chances and it wasn't long before none other than Owen Ford opened the scoring with a fine finish to make it 1 nil. Chard continued the pressure and were rewarded again with Rees Loveridge setting up Ethan Underhill inside the box but with work to do still Ethan turned well and managed to get a lovely clean strike away to make it 2 nil! Things seemed to be plain sailing until one of the Pethy lads carried the ball well beating man after man to finally get his shot away to the bottom right of the goal, 1-2! Shortly afterwards though the 2 goal lead was re established through a Jake Davey free kick with his 11th goal of the season to make it 1-3 at half time, impressive stats for a midfielder!

2nd half continued with more of the same Chard well in control. The first goal of the half came from Rees who having only stepped up to the first team recently gets his 2nd goal of the season, assisted by Owen. Chard's afternoon of goals was rounded of fairly late into the 2nd half where captain Lee Hames pounced on the ball inside the box to score Chard's 5th of the day... what he was doing that far up the pitch we will never know. Pethy had the final say in the game, with the Chard keeper caught sleeping miles off his line Pethy took advantage of this with a long range shot to see the game end 5-2 to Chard!

Manager Pink had this to say-'I had this game in my sights for a while, I knew what was at stake and that the double over Pethy would be massive for the lads and myself. Sadly though it was clear to see Pethy are in a bad spot at the moment and it kind of took the feel good factor away from it, but none the less the boys got the job done and I couldn't be happier with where we are going into our final game. It was a great day for our front 3 of Owen, Ethan and Rees all getting onto the scoresheet in the same game for the first time this season, as well as Jake picking up yet another goal putting him on 11 now is impressive. From our 43 goals this season 30 have come through Owen and Jake plus god knows how many assists, this really shows to me how valuable they are to this club. Credit to Gavin Lewis today who has been there through all of the ups and downs over the previous 2 seasons and has struggled himself at times though came away with motm today, fully deserved. Finally I'd like to give my continued thanks to all of the players for the 2nd half of this season under me, its been a hell of a turn around and going into our final game of the season i have the confidence in the lads to be able to go out there and get a result against probably the toughest team we have faced in this league over the past 2 seasons!'

Misterton 1sts 1-1 Chard United 1sts

Chard arrived at Misterton looking to grab another win from last seasons league winners but had to settle for a draw in a less dramatic game to the previous week.

1st half started in what was a very cagey start. Misterton grew into the half with plenty of possession but didn't seem to create much and for the most part Chard stood firm with some good defensive work and some good saves from the keeper. But towards the end of the 1st half Misterton broke the deadlock with a header that beat the Chard defence & keeper to make it 1 nil at half time. The Chard lads knew they had to come out with a much better display in the 2nd half.

2nd half started Chard came out looking the stronger of the 2 side's and for the first time in the game looked to start causing some issues for the Misterton defence. The lads were looking more confident, going in for everything hard but fair and would probably say 70/30 on every challenge. With Misterton not having too much to offer Chard took advantage of this and created a few chances but couldn't seem to find the back of the net. Finally though the pressure was too much and with Jake and Rees pressuring the Misterton back line into a mistake meant in form Jake Davey could glide through and take the ball into the box for a well taken finish to make it 1 all. The half continued with Chard looking to seal a winner late on with a few more chances but it wasn't to be and the game ended 1 all, which on reflection is probably a fair result on the day!

Manager Pink had this to say-'After last weeks win we were looking to come here and get the double win over Misterton but it wasn't meant to be! But regardless of that I am extremely happy to of come away with a win and a draw and to of taken 4 points from the last 2 seasons league winners and the lads should be too. I must admit after beating them last week I was expecting a lot more from Misterton on the day especially after the words of wisdom from one of their players in the warm up👀. I'd like to say thanks for Cruz Baker choosing to play for us on the day to help out, much appreciated. And shout out to all of the players for the continued hard work they have been putting in week in week out and the results that have followed that effort are fully deserved.'

Next week Chard take the trip to South Petherton where they look to be coming away with all 3 points.

Reserves welcome combe cults back to Jocelyn.

Game started very even with both sides pushing for a quick goal

But it was chard netting first from a rocket launcher thrown in from isaac patch which hit the combe keeper to fall kindly for marcus burgess to tap home.

Chard made some quick changes early on to make sure craig willcocks didn't cry even more and leave to play golf instead ... with craig coming on and being solid at the back

Second half chard started sluggish and needed to pick up the pace but combe pushed on and scored the equaliser from some tired defending.

Both sides carried on very even but a combe long throw in caught out chard and with a very questionable decision not to punish a push on chard defender dan scriven... headed straight into his own net.

Chard knew they had to push on and they did with a great through ball dan scriven made the run tackled the combe keeper and slotted home to make it 2-2

Chard United 1sts 2-1 Misterton 1sts.

Chard welcomed Misterton to Jocelyn in their final home game of the season in what was set to be a big game for the lads they came out on top with a well deserved 2-1 win against last seasons champions!

The game started fairly even and quite cagey, Chard contained Misterton very well and made it extremely difficult for Misterton to get a foothold in the game. As the half continued Chard began to look the stronger of the 2 teams and half way through the half Logan who stepped into midfield for the day came up trumps and fired home a long range shot to the top corner! 1-0 to Chard! But shortly afterwards unfortunately he was chucked in the bin for 10 minutes! With Chard down to 10 men they seemed to up it even more and still looked to cause problems for a rattled Misterton with the closest effort coming from Owen Ford hitting the bar from a free kick, but the half ended 1 nil.

2nd half started with Chard looking to build on the 1 nil lead they had, but unfortunately shortly into the half Misterton were awarded a penalty to which they slotted down the middle, the Chard keeper managed to get a touch on it but it wasn't enough to keep it out, 1-1! With the teams looking fairly even it was looking to be a tight affair and the next goal came from none other than Chard's top scorer Owen Ford who beat the Misterton defence and calmly slotted home his 21st goal of the season! Chard looked to add to this with a good run from Jake Davey followed by a tidy finish but the flag was up for offside! The game saw plenty of drama in the final 20 minutes with Chard having their 2nd player of the day sin binned and with 2 Misterton players sent off Chard thought it was going to be an easy final 15, but how wrong were they! With Misterton down to 9 men they looked the best and most dangerous they had all day! Causing the Chard defence multiple issues right down to the final minute which saw Misterton awarded 2 penalties! The first of which hit the bar and the 2nd saw the Chard keeper pull off a great save to make sure the game ended 2-1!

Manager Pink had this to say-'This was the one I have been waiting for all season and the lads did not dissapoint. After losing in the manner in which we did at Misterton's ground last season the lads knew how much I wanted this, as did they too! I hugely appreciate the effort ALL of the players put into this game to make sure we came away with a win in our last home game of the season. As good as every single player was Saturday I have to give a special mention to goalkeeper Squid for a really good performance and saving the day right at the end by saving the penalty. Also to Logan Parkes who stepped up to play in midfield for the day and came away with a fantastic goal and motm. From the lows of the first half of the season to of won the last 4 out of 5 games since i've taken over is a great feeling for myself and more importantly for the players as well, they deserve it, they have turned it around and this feels more and more like a team now!'

Yetminster Res 6-3 Chard United Res

The reserves travelled to Sherborne to face Yetminster with a depleted squad of 12 players which included mutilple players carrying injuries for another hard division 2 game.

Res started off the strongest going 2-0 up within the first 15 minutes with a top class 30 yard volley from Marcus Burgess and a sloppily taken penalty from Dan Scriven. Stand in manager Parr was just happy this one stayed in the earths orbit as Dan’s last penalty is still orbitng somewhere above Perry Street playing fields.

Yetminster clawed a goal back but the res went into half time 2-1 up, Yetminster came with a lot intensity and high pressure to pin the res back, scoring 4 goals in 25 minutes, with player getting injured left right and centre the res had to tweak formation and started to play some good football again, unfortunately Yetminster scored another, the res valiantly carried on battling until the end with Joao Neves adding the 3rd goal after running the from the half way line, beating mutilple players and calmly slotting it past the keeper.

The reserves are aiming to bounce back away to Combe on Saturday.
