WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK…

When: Tuesday, June 16th - 18:30
Where: Knightwood Leisure Centre
What: Dave’s Reps

We'll warm up and partake in some drills. Drills are short activities to help train your muscles and brain into performing the action of running and can really help with your efficiency. The session is 8 intervals of 90 seconds with 60 second rests in between. There's a bonus of 2 or 4 extra 90 seconds after for those who are feeling strong! After the session, we'll finish with a cool down and stretch. As always, all members are welcome and we will be staying in the same place during the intervals so no one gets lost or left behind!

When: Wednesday, June 17th - 7pm
Where: The White Horse - Ampfield
What: 11km ish

An absolute beaut of a summer route that usually hits our calendar once a year. Setting off from the White Horse we’ll work our way through Ampfield woods up to St John’s church at Farley.

Fun facts: while it looks completely out of place sitting entirely alone in an empty field on the high chalk downs, it is actually the sole physical survivor of a once-thriving medieval settlement, wiped out by the Black Death in the mid-1300s. Because the congregation vanished, the village never grew or modernised. Consequently, the church structure was neither expanded nor heavily altered by later generations. It stands today as an almost flawlessly preserved, rare example of a 12th-century Norman country church. Due to its high elevation (563 feet above sea level) a signal brazier sat at St John’s was lit in 1588 to warn the country of the invading Spanish Armada.

The route is 50/50 trail and road - but good weather pending it should be mostly firm underfoot. Subject to availability of group leaders we’ll aim for three pace groups ranging from 5min/km to 7min/km

Route: https://www.strava.com/routes/2968472146845584590. This is a great away route - don’t miss it!

After a short warm up at the leisure centre, we’ll head out onto Knightwood Road for six sets of five minutes effort, running out and back along Knightwood. The pace should feel like a 7/10, or the pace you could run comfortably-uncomfortably for about an hour, or a pace where you can speak a few words. After the session, we'll finish with a cool down and stretch. As always, all members are welcome and we will be staying in the same place during the intervals so no one gets lost or left behind!
