Huge shoutout to Colin, who has been absolutely smashing it over the last three months! 🏋️‍♂️

If you only looked at the scales, you’d think nothing happened. However, if you look at the photos, it's a different story!!!

Colin is the perfect living proof that weight loss and fat loss are two very different things.

So far........

Waist down an amazing 4 inches!

Strength, way up.

Posture, tanding taller and more upright

Muscles, are definitely loading!

Also, his tan has mysteriously vanished - we're still investigating this tragedy! 😅

The strategy to achieving all this in his 60s?
No magic pills—just consistency!

Tracking Nutrition: Fueling and feeding properly! 🙌🏾

Hydration: Drinking more water (2-3L a day)

Strength training: More time lifting (at least 3 times a week)

With those boxes ticked, progress was always going to follow!

Well done, Colin! You’re proof that age is just a number, even if your hamstrings are apparently miles long! 😉😂

Keep up that momentum; we’re just getting started! 💪🏾

Ever since I caught the strength training bug, pull-ups have always been my "Everest."

Why? Because 15 years ago, when I was tipping the scales at 120kg, my relationship with the pull-up bar was strictly non-existent. Back then, the only thing "pulling up" was me pulling up a chair for dinner! 🤯🤣

Now, as I stare down my 54th birthday, hitting a set of 10–12 reps still feels like a bit of a magic trick. My brain still expects my feet to stay firmly glued to the floor.

I finally plucked up the courage to film a set topless. Watching the muscles in my back actually doing their job is a massive "wow" moment. It’s a nice reminder that underneath the 5kg of "recovery and Christmas pudding" I’ve put on recently, there’s a coach who knows his stuff!

Not bad for a fella who’s officially more than half a century old, eh? I might have a few more creaks in the morning, but the engine is still humming!

I want to hear from you: What’s that one exercise you take massive pride in? Whether it’s a heavy deadlift or finally touching your toes without making a sound like a rusty hinge—tell me why it matters to you!

Drop a comment below! 💪🏾😅

So you've joined a gym, decided to take ownership of your health and fitness and need a simple weights program to get started, here's my advice!

Start off by going in at least 2 or 3 times a week and focuse more on strength NOT cardio.

I'm not saying don't do cardio, just make sure it only takes up a small amount of the time you spend in the gym.

For a 2 day program

📌 Upper body one day (Chest, shoulders, back, arms and abs)

📌 Lower body one day (Quads, glutes, hamstrings and calves)

One exercise per muscle group, 4 sets x 12 reps and 45 seconds rest between sets!

3 day program

📌 Push (chest, shoulders, triceps)

📌 Pull (Back, biceps, abs)

📌 Legs (as above)

Reps and sets as above as well.

Reserve 20-30 at the end of your workout for cardio (steady state, low impact) and a cool down!

Done!

As I've said here and on numerous occasions in the past, stick to the plan for 3-4 weeks, and you will see improvements in both strength and fitness levels.

Give it a go and let me know how you get on! 💪🏾

I'm not just basing this on my own personal experience, but also on the experience I've gained from helping others achieve their weight loss goals.

It never comes as quickly as you want/ expect, nor is it ever in a linear form. That's just the simple truth!

The fact of the matter is fat loss and fat gain are both dependent on calories in V calories out.

In no universe can you lose what you put on over half a lifetime in 60 days!! (apart from the Marvel universe where Bruce Banner can lose and gain 500kg+ just by getting the hump!) 🤣

Trust the process! It's slow, hard, but it's 100% worth it! 💪🏾

✳️ If you need any help with any of the points I've mentioned above, send me a message or drop a comment below and I'll get back to you for an initial chat!

Strength Training: It's For Everyone

Forget the image of massive, pre-contest bodybuilders lifting colossal weights. That's a tiny, highly specialized segment of the fitness world, and it's created a big misconception: that strength training is only for the young, the ultra-intense gym-goer, or those aspiring to look like a statue.

The truth is, strength training is fundamental for human health, regardless of your age, fitness level, or physique goals. It's not about achieving an extreme look; it's about building a better, more resilient you. If you can move your body, you can, and should, benefit from strength work.

The actual benefits are far more practical and life-changing than just bigger biceps. Regularly engaging in strength training leads to increased muscle mass, which is vital for burning more calories even at rest, effectively improving your metabolism.

It significantly enhances bone density, acting as a crucial defence against osteoporosis as you age. Most importantly, it boosts functional strength—the ability to perform everyday tasks easily, like carrying groceries, playing with your kids, or simply getting up off the floor without strain. This kind of strength is essential for independence and quality of life.

The beauty of strength training is its adaptability. You don't need a fancy gym membership or hours of free time. Simple, effective strength training can be integrated into almost any routine.

This could be as basic as doing bodyweight exercises (squats, push-ups, lunges) at home, using resistance bands for a quick workout, or incorporating a couple of sessions with free weights or machines at a local gym.

Start small with two to three 30-minute sessions a week, focusing on good form, and you'll soon feel the difference in your energy and capabilities.

Remember, when it comes to muscles, you use 'em or lose 'em... and trust me, saggy/flabby ain't a good look, no matter your age! 😬

5 things I don't miss about being 45kg overweight

Dropping from 120kg to 75kg changed my life, not just my body. Now, as a coach in my 50s, I help others do the same. While my "before" picture is a strong reminder, I don't look back with nostalgia. Here are 5 things I'm happy to never experience again:

1. Constant joint ache. My knees and back were in constant agony, even during short walks. Going upstairs felt like punishment. Now, my joints feel strong and supported—a testament to what 45kg less stress and consistent strength training achieves.

2. Needing undershirts for sweat. The heavy, constant sweating was embarrassing. I needed an extra layer to absorb it, hoping to avoid huge wet patches. The freedom of wearing a regular t-shirt and not constantly soaking through it is a powerful victory.

3. Fat jokes. Whether from friends, family, or strangers, the jokes about my size always stung. It was a constant reminder that my weight was the first thing people saw. Now, they see a healthy, active 53-year-old who practices what he preaches.

4. Guilt at food choices. The cycle of eating -> guilt -> comfort eating was exhausting and destructive. Every meal felt like a moral failure instead of fuel. Getting healthy changed my relationship with food; I now eat for nourishment and enjoyment, not to numb feelings. The peace of mind is priceless.

5. Zero fitness and missing out on life. My old self was constantly knackered. I'd avoid activities because I simply couldn't keep up. The true loss wasn't just fitness, but the experiences I missed. The ability to say "yes" to most activities now, without my body holding me back, is the single greatest reward.

If you're carrying that extra weight, remember: starting is the hardest part. Once you commit, the rewards are so much more than the scale. They're about what you stop missing.
