🎉 Best news ever!! The Appeal has been dismissed! Can’t quite believe it!

🥰Thank you to everyone for giving your time, financial support, encouragement, wisdom, for writing and objecting over many years.

👏Huge thanks to CADRA, Kidmore End Parish Council, South Oxfordshire councillors and officers and the crowdfunded barrister John Fitzsimons and ultimately to the Inspector for actually listening to local people.

💌 Everyone is invited to CADRA’s AGM and a talk on “Caversham 1926: our bridge, our river and the Royal Show”, tomorrow, Tuesday 19 May.

⛪️ It’s at Caversham Baptist Church (opposite Waitrose). Doors will open at 7pm for a 7:30 start. Light refreshments will be available.

🌳After a brief AGM, which will include a round up on the recent planning inquiry, there will be three short talks, followed by questions. The evening aims to finish by 9:30pm.

📰Update on Planning Inquiry

3️⃣ Today is the end of the third day of the Inquiry into building 70 houses on the golf course and there is now a break until Tuesday.

🙋On Wednesday, the first day, we saw a packed room with lots of local people present to demonstrate that this site matters to us.

🦇Huge thanks to those who came and also to those who spoke on why this site is so precious. We heard about bats, birds and wildlife, trees, roads and well-being. It was wonderful. We have such a great community.

💼 Most of the rest of the time has seen the developer’s lawyers trying to establish, point after point, that the site is “urban”, and “low value” and not worthy to be a locally valued landscape - even though that is how it has independently been categorised in South Oxfordshire and Kidmore End plans. It’s been frustrating listening.

🥾The Inspector will visit the site next week, and it is looking so beautiful right now. Please let’s keep it that way and take home any rubbish and dog poo bags.

🙌Thanks to CADRA and the team at Kidmore End for being at the Inquiry all week - they are impressive volunteers giving up their time for us. A weekend to rest and review, before it all begins again on Tuesday. 🙏🏻

👏 Congratulations to Alex Smith (Conservative) who has been elected as one of our three Councillors for Emmer Green Ward.

She joins Stephen Goss (Cons) and Daya Pal Singh (Lab) representing us - they weren’t up for election this year.

🗳️Here are the results (alphabetical order):

Hannah Conibear - Green - 1,103
Nishikant Gupta - Liberal Democrat - 290
Clarence Mitchell - Reform - 805
Alex Smith - Conservative - 1,143
Ollie White - Labour - 770

🙋‍♀️Turnout was 52.5% which was the highest in all the Reading wards.

🌱Please consider as you vote, who will best advocate for Emmer Green. And who cares about the issues we care about. This is a local not a national election and so issues like protecting our green spaces really matter.

📢 Last call for anyone free tomorrow (Wed) who is able to come to the Planning Inquiry.

❌ Please help us show the strength of local opposition to Fairfax’s plans to build 70 houses on the golf course.

🏘️ This is a significant inquiry. If the development goes ahead, we will see lots more attempts to build out into the countryside.

🙌 Thanks to local people’s generosity, KEPC have hired a barrister to advocate for us. He is good and won the case against Gladmans. If you haven’t yet given we still need to find the final part of his fee! Link below.

💚CADRA have prepared a good case for us too as a Rule 6 party. They are working hard and we are really grateful to them. If you aren’t a member do join today - it gives them even greater authority.

👨‍⚖️Next Wednesday, the planning inquiry begins. It will decide whether another 70 houses should be built on the golf course. That’s in addition to the 223 already under construction.

❌ Please come and voice your opposition to the plans. There is the opportunity, on the first day, for local residents to speak.

📆 Inquiry Dates: 6, 7, 8, 12, 13 May

⏰Start time: 10am on the first day, 9.30am thereafter.

🗣️CADRA will be representing local voices and Kidmore End Parish Council and South Oxfordshire will also be against the application.

🫵 To protect our green space here in Emmer Green, against the developer’s concrete, we need your help!

🏘️ We need to raise money for a barrister to fight the appeal which the developers have asked for. Fairfax have a whole lot of money and a massive team of barristers, but we just need one good one!

👨‍⚖️The golf course land is in Kidmore End Parish, and the Parish Council, who are against building 70 houses here, have instructed a great barrister - he won the fight against Gladmans.

🙋‍♀️But legal costs are £20,000. So far we have raised £7220 with 47 people’s help.

☕️ But there are several thousand more of us - £5 each would cover it! That’s about the cost of a large cappuccino. Please will you help us get to the target.

💪We believe we have a strong case. It’s different to the 223 houses because this land is in Kidmore End Parish in South Oxfordshire and planning precedent is on our side. We just need a barrister to present that case well and clearly.

🌳Please give your support today. When the trees and green buffer is gone, hidden under concrete, it will be too late.
