DOUBLE WINNING WEEKEND!

It was an excellent weekend for Glasshoughton as the 1st and 2nd XI took home important victories.

The 1st XI travelled to Askern Welfare, winning the toss and electing to bowl.

Jake Medley (4-34) and Iwan Raven (1-45) tied the opposition down early, reducing Askern Welfare to 19-3 early in the piece. However, a 122-run fourth-wicket partnership between Adrian Park (85) and Thomas Webster (38) turned the tie as Glasshoughton's makeshift bowling attack toiled.

Toby Barnett proved the difference-maker, removing both set batters in consecutive overs. Some late hitting by Abraham Qamar set a strong 198 total to chase.

Contributions from the top three of Clinton Speight (12), Josh Ward (20) and Max Dakin (39) set a solid platform, but an excellent spell from Gareth Williams (3-44) reduced us to 92-5, and soon after we were 116-7, with another 82 runs to chase.

Step up Yathish Gowda who produced a 48-ball 61 to tie the score before departing. Jake Medley dabbed us to victory with a boundary, with Iwan Raven (17*) once again providing runs at the bottom of the order.

At HQ, the majority of the batting order contributed to a strong 177 total from 40 overs - Joe Barnett (60*) and Steve Wood (34) the main contributors.

In reply, Glass lost the option of Ben Hayes through injury, with Dean Medley (2-25) and Rich Hayes (1-23) keeping the run rate very much in check.

The spin twins of Dale Bedford (5-19) and John Budden (2-19), the former earning his first five-for, reduced the visitors to 97 all out.
