As Glasshoughton CC prepares for an exciting new chapter in the YPLN, we take a look at a club with proud roots in the Castleford area and a long-standing commitment to providing cricket for its local community.
📜 CRICKET IN GLASSHOUGHTON
Glasshoughton is a community shaped by its industrial past, sitting immediately alongside Castleford in the heart of the former West Yorkshire coalfield.
Like so many cricket clubs across Yorkshire’s traditional mining communities, Glasshoughton Cricket Club has provided generations of local people with the opportunity to play the game and represent their community.
🏏 A TRADITIONAL YORKSHIRE CLUB
While some clubs can trace their history through extensive surviving archives, the story of clubs such as Glasshoughton is often found in the people who have kept them going – the players, officials, groundsmen, volunteers and families who have given countless hours to grassroots cricket.
Through changing leagues, changing generations and the enormous changes experienced by the local area itself, cricket has continued to have a home at Glasshoughton.
🌱 DEVELOPING THE NEXT GENERATION
An important part of the club’s future is providing opportunities for new generations to enjoy cricket.
Like so many successful community clubs, Glasshoughton recognises that sustainability is about much more than what happens in the 1st XI on a Saturday afternoon.
It is about creating a club where youngsters can discover the game, players can progress into senior cricket and families and volunteers can become part of the wider club community.
🔴 A NEW CHAPTER
Now another significant moment in the history of Glasshoughton Cricket Club is approaching.
In 2027, Glasshoughton Cricket Club will join the Yorkshire Premier League North, becoming part of the YPLN structure for the first time.
It represents an exciting opportunity for the club and another important step in its development.
For Glasshoughton, however, joining the YPLN isn't simply about entering a new competition.
It is another chapter in the story of a community cricket club that has continued to provide a place for people to play, volunteer, compete and enjoy the game.
We look forward to seeing that story continue.
