🏃♂️ Runner of the Month – May 🏃♂️
It’s that time again for Runner of the Month... and yet again, it wasn’t an easy decision!
We’ve had our Couch to 5K graduation, the start of the Canal Series, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Half Marathon, the Pontefract 10K, and plenty more besides. The club has been full of incredible performances, personal achievements, and inspiring stories.
With so many amazing athletes putting in the work week after week, there are countless people who could have been chosen. Everyone will have their own opinion, and that’s a testament to how well the whole team is performing through consistent training, commitment, and support for one another.
This month’s Runner of the Month goes to Carl Etherington.
When Carl told members of the club that he was running the one weekend and the the next, some people thought he was mad. Then he added and the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon.
At that point, people stopped asking if he was serious and started wondering if he’d accidentally signed up for every marathon in the country!
Running four marathons in four consecutive weekends would be a huge challenge on its own. Add in being a full-time teacher, the travel, the logistics, and very little recovery time, and it becomes an even more remarkable achievement.
But Carl wasn’t doing it just for himself. He took on the challenge to raise awareness and funds for making every mile count for a fantastic cause.
Carl absolutely smashed the challenge (with Leeds been his fastest), completing four marathons in four weekends and doing himself, his family, his club, and his charity proud.
Massive congratulations, Carl – a truly deserved Runner of the Month.
Now please have a rest before Yorkshire Marathon... and this time, just the one marathon will do 🙏
