📢 More news coming from Savvy HQ…

We’re delighted to announce that Dean Watson and Lesley Jones are beginning their journeys to become our newest Run Leads! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

As the club continues to grow, it’s important that we continue to develop our members too. Seeing people step forward, learn new skills, and take on leadership roles is exactly what Savvy Park Runrz is all about.

We know you’ll agree that Dean and Lesley will be fantastic additions to the team, and we’re excited to support them as they progress through their training.

Please join us in congratulating them and wishing them every success on this next step in their Savvy journey! 👏🧡

We’re delighted to introduce the new Mental Health Champion team at Savvy Park Runrz: Csilla, Lyndsey, Carl and Mark 🧡

As Mental Health Champions, our role is to help promote the positive impact that running can have on mental wellbeing, encourage open conversations about mental health, and help break down stigma.

We will signpost mental health support and signpost people to appropriate services, support initiatives and others, and be a friendly point of contact for anyone joining our club.

We will continue to ensure the club recognises that running is about much more than miles and finish times. It’s about community, connection, and looking after ourselves and each other. We will be working with like minded groups to work together.

Together, we can all ensure Savvy Park Runrz remains a welcoming, supportive place where nobody is alone. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🧡

🏃‍♂️ Runner of the Month – May 🏃‍♂️

It’s that time again for Runner of the Month... and yet again, it wasn’t an easy decision!

We’ve had our Couch to 5K graduation, the start of the Canal Series, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Half Marathon, the Pontefract 10K, and plenty more besides. The club has been full of incredible performances, personal achievements, and inspiring stories.

With so many amazing athletes putting in the work week after week, there are countless people who could have been chosen. Everyone will have their own opinion, and that’s a testament to how well the whole team is performing through consistent training, commitment, and support for one another.

This month’s Runner of the Month goes to Carl Etherington.

When Carl told members of the club that he was running the one weekend and the the next, some people thought he was mad. Then he added and the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon.

At that point, people stopped asking if he was serious and started wondering if he’d accidentally signed up for every marathon in the country!

Running four marathons in four consecutive weekends would be a huge challenge on its own. Add in being a full-time teacher, the travel, the logistics, and very little recovery time, and it becomes an even more remarkable achievement.

But Carl wasn’t doing it just for himself. He took on the challenge to raise awareness and funds for making every mile count for a fantastic cause.

Carl absolutely smashed the challenge (with Leeds been his fastest), completing four marathons in four weekends and doing himself, his family, his club, and his charity proud.

Massive congratulations, Carl – a truly deserved Runner of the Month.

Now please have a rest before Yorkshire Marathon... and this time, just the one marathon will do 🙏

recces well underway this weekend 🧡

For those not familiar… the Leeds Country Way Relay is an annual 6-leg, multi-terrain running event organized by our friends the Kippax Harriers. Teams consist of 12 runners (paired up for each leg) who race clockwise around the entire 60-plus mile route of the Leeds Country Way.

This summer, we’re doing something special. 💙

Introducing ‘Colson’s Cricket Club’

Castleford Cricket Club X Colson Smith X Metro Bank

Trailer coming this Sunday at 10am, ahead of the release of first five episodes dropping nightly next week!

This summer at Savile park our very own Colson is on a mission to change the game of cricket in right here in Castleford, by bringing women’s and girls cricket to area for the very first time.

‘Teaming up with Metro Bank and their Girls in Cricket Fund, the aim is to build a women’s and girls’ section from scratch.

The journey will be followed by a camera crew in a brand new digital documentary, Colson’s Cricket Club.

From calling out to the community for players to the realities of building a team in a working-class community where cricket opportunities for women and girls have previously been limited.

Its about opening up the game up to everyone, inspiring a new chapter in cricket in Castleford, and proving that with the right support inside a community, something new can be built from the ground up.’

So we decided to do something a little different this year… our 50/50 draw.

Which sees 50% of the pot going to our monthly winner and 50% to the charity of the month. So far we have donated over £400 to charities.

- In January we supported Mark who was raising money for

- In February it was the turn of Rachel and Lyndsey supporting

- Then in March it was Gem who supported

- and for April it was Chris’ turns who supported

We as a club love doing our bit for charity and supporting our local community. 🧡
