🔴⚫ 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: Senior Ladies Championship Journey Ends at the Semi-Final Stage 🔴⚫
Our Senior Ladies season came to an end on Sunday evening in Drumragh, following a brave and hard-fought Championship battle against a strong Moortown St. Malachys side in the semi-final. 😕
On a cool evening, there was plenty of determination and commitment on display as both sides battled for a place in the Final, with the Derg ladies knowing they’d have to produce their best against a well-organised and experienced Moortown outfit. ⚔️
𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟:
Moortown opened the scoring early with a free and a quick point from play to take a two-point lead inside three minutes. Castlederg responded in the 6th minute, getting on the scoreboard via a successfully converted free. 👌
It was a key moment in the 9th minute, though, that proved pivotal, as the Derg defence were drawn to the ball allowing Moortown the chance to chip a pass over to an unmarked forward, who calmly finished low into the corner to move 1-3 to 0-1 ahead. 😱
Castlederg however, continued to work hard and began to settle into the contest. Two well-taken points in quick succession around the 18th and 19th minute marks reduced the deficit, but Moortown remained composed and added a further four points before half-time. 🫣

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟:
The second half saw Castlederg come out with renewed purpose. Points from a free and from play in the opening three minutes, followed by another converted free shortly afterwards, gave the Red and Black real encouragement. A further point from play brought Castlederg to within five points at 0-7 to 1-9. 💪
However, Moortown's class began to tell as the half wore on. Three points in quick succession moved them back to eight clear by the midpoint of the half. 😬
The Derg ladies refused to give up and continued to push right until the final whistle. There were several opportunities to reduce the deficit, including three late efforts that went narrowly wide, a penalty shout that was denied and a shot that agonisingly struck the post, but the goal that might have reignited Castlederg’s challenge would not come. 😤
Moortown added a further point from a free late on to complete the scoring, securing victory and their place in the Championship Final. 😕

While the result was not what Castlederg had hoped for, there was plenty to admire in the effort shown by the Ladies throughout the evening. They battled from start to finish against a very strong opponent and can look back with pride on their Championship campaign. 🫶
And so, the Castlederg Ladies 2026 season comes to an end. 🔴⚫
