Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools' District Football Team

Erdington and Saltley has a long and rich history at both secondary school level and primary school level.

Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools' FA organises inter-schools and district football for pupils from 49 primary schools across the Erdington, Saltley, Nechells, Shard End, Hodge Hill and Bromford areas of Birmingham. The Erdington & Saltley Schools Football Association was formed in 1964, merging the old separate associations of Saltley and Erdington, whose origins go back many years. However,

despite this long history, there has not been a primary school team for several years up until its reformation for the 2012-13 season. Players from over 40 schools qualify to represent the district and the standard of players is exceptionally high. Therefore, anyone who pulls on the black and gold of Erdington and Saltley must be an incredibly talented individual! An illustrious list of players have represented the district over the years with many going on to ply their trade in the professional arena, including the following:

Gabriel Agbonlahor – Aston Villa and England

Darren Byfield – Aston Villa and Jamaica

Julian Dicks – Birmingham City, West Ham and England U21

Ian Taylor – Aston Villa

Gary Shaw – Aston Villa, England U21, PFA Player of the Year 1981, European Cup Winner 1982

Darius Vassell – Aston Villa, Manchester City and England

Barry Bannan – Aston Villa and Scotland

District football is the highest level of grassroots football that primary aged children can play. It is the best players competing against the best. All games are played from Castle Vale Stadium, it is free and has a rich history of providing players with memories for life.

Former players have gone on to play in thr Premier League, represent their country, win the European Cup and manage Athletico Madrid!

Miller Magic - everyone at The Ton is incredibly proud of 2013/14 wing wizard Amari Miller after he achieved another key milestone yesterday when he played for the Birmingham City first team in their pre-season friendly against Charlton Athletic. Seven years ago he helped the district win their first trophies for several decades, scoring 28 goals from midfield in 24 appearances and proving himself a key member of an excellent team. Everyone at Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools district is incredibly proud of Amari and excited for what the future holds!

PRIMARY SCHOOLS' DISTRICT FOOTBALL TEAM CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF BIRMINGHAM!

The Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools boys' district football team won the Birmingham Primary Schools FA Cup yesterday to make it five trophies for the COVID-delayed 2019/20 season. In total, the talented boys won the following trophies this season:

Birmingham Primary Schools FA 7-a-side
West Midlands County Schools FA 7-a-side
Midlands Challenge Cup

The Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools district football team is picked annually and consists of pupils from the 49 primary schools across Erdington, Saltley, Nechells, Washwood Heath, Hodge Hill, Bromford and Shard End.

Birmingham Primary Schools FA Cup winners 2019/20 - today saw the boys win the Birmingham Primary Schools FA Cup for the third time since 2016. A superb performance from the lads saw them keep a clean sheet while finding their shooting boots. Well done boys!

We also spent a week is Jersey and had a load of fun during what was an amazing year!

Girls District Team 2017-19: The History Makers - over a two year period, our girls' team became our most successful team ever with an ESFA National plate, 10 regional trophies and only two loses in two years. They were a credit to us on and off the pitch and set the standard for girls' district football across the West Midlands. What a team!

District Football: Opportunities to play academy sides from home and abroad - In August 2016, the boys of Erdington and Saltley competed against a number of very talented district sides, as well as professional clubs from home and abroad in the Bath International Cup. Day one saw the boys play Chelsea, Rayo Vallecano and Borussia Monchengladbach, picking up a great 1-1 draw with the latter. Then on day two the boys were crowned plate winners as the best non-academy side. This was their second victory in this prestigious competition in two seasons.

English Schools' FA National Finals - since 2016, Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools district has played in four national finals. Competing with the likes of Liverpool, Plymouth, Sunderland, Leeds and Bath is a huge testament to the talent in our schools!

Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools FA - the communities of Nechells, Washwood Heath, Saltley, Hodge Hill, Bromford, Shard End and Erdington are packed with talented footballers. Over the past five years, we've been crowned winners of the West Midlands County Schools FA Cup on four occasions. This prestigious competition had not been won by a Birmingham schools' association since 1982, prior to our first victory in 2015. The boys also made the 2020 final before the season was cut short by COVID19.
