Cartmel faced a weekend double-header against Vickerstown, meeting twice in less than 24 hours, first in the British Rose T20 on Friday evening before making the trip to Walney for Saturday’s league fixture.
Unfortunately, Cartmel found themselves on the wrong side of the results on both occasions, with Vickerstown proving worthy winners across the weekend.
There were still a few positives to take away.
Friday night’s T20 at Cartmel Park saw Vickerstown bat first and post 143, despite Cartmel doing well to bowl the visitors out inside 19 overs. The highlight with the ball came from Joe Atkinson, who claimed the first hat-trick of his Cartmel career, a moment that will live long in the memory.
In reply, Cartmel fought hard but ultimately fell 32 runs short on 111 for 9. One of the bright spots came from Thushan Withanage, who recorded his highest score for the club with an unbeaten 17, finishing the innings in style with a six.
The following day, Cartmel travelled to Walney looking for a response in the league. However, they came up against a strong Vickerstown side and found themselves on the receiving end of a one-sided defeat.
The standout moment for Cartmel came from Matthew Burton, who top scored for the visitors and finally reached double figures after several years of turning out for the club. A milestone that was warmly received by teammates and supporters alike.
While results did not go Cartmel’s way, there were still a few individual moments worth celebrating and lessons to take into the weeks ahead.
Congratulations to Vickerstown on two well-deserved victories, and we wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
Cartmel return to action next Saturday when Milnthorpe visit Cartmel Park in the league. We look forward to seeing you there.
