Arbroath Golf Links | Scotland

Keep an eye out for the Greenkeeper getting a closer look at the first green - my favourite picture.

Originally designed by Old Tom Morris in 1877 it has remained largely unchanged since James Braid re-designed the bunkering in 1907.

The natural topography of the course is largely flat and holes 1 and 18 are largely featureless, except for a passing train! However.... holes 2-17 feature some of the most interesting and characterful greens complexes you will play and are expertly maintained. Definitely worth a visit - recommended.

This year has seen some of the most extreme weather conditions on record - sleet, snow and rain as courses were diligently being prepared for the season and an extended spell of dry weather and heat that pushed courses and greens teams to their limits.

The images attached briefly chronicle Whitley Bay Golf Course throughout the season, it's changing playing conditions and ultimately an environment that reflects the science of greenkeeping, that is continually challenged by the elements.

Very impressive work.

Huge congratulations to John Scurfield who placed runner-up in the Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year Award, supported by BIGGA. This speaks volumes for the passion, commitment and knowledge you have brought to Morpeth Golf Course. Well done!

BIGGA is proud to reveal that Daniel Ashelby and Danny Patten have been announced as winners of the Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year Award.

First chance to check out the tree management taking place at Ponteland Golf Course today. Lots of discussion around this, however, the works carried out are a huge improvement. Clear consideration has been given to playability, aesthetics, air flow (with a view to turf health), views across the course and beyond and the recognition of specimen trees such as ash, beech and oak.
Time will see further improvement through maturity and it would be great to do a full review next year, when the full benefits will have been experienced over the winter leading into the 2019 season. Great work.
