I’m a pensioner and the chart above shows how much we get from the government each month, compared to some of the other European nations. We’re bottom of the pile. Don’t forget, this isn’t free money, we paid into it for 50 years! Because I topped it up I get around £900. (I paid extra each month to get a slightly better pension!) That’s the princely sum we are given each month after paying tax and NI for the best part of 50 years.
Everyone may think we get everything for free, but we don’t. We get a free bus pass, that’s it. We have to pay for dental treatment, glasses/spectacles, everything, with no discount.
My council tax each month is £200+ (no discount) gas and electric £130 a month (no discount) £57 for water rates ( no discount)
That leaves £513 each month, or £128 each week to pay for everything else, such as food etc. That’s less than the daily bar bill for some of the MP’s.
The government are scrapping the triple lock which gave us an extra £10 or so each month. Nice one Labour.
They took £100 winter fuel allowance from us last year.
So it seems the “wealthy” pensioners are paying the price for Labour saying in their manifesto, that they wouldn’t raise taxes. I’ve got a good idea, let’s hammer the pensioners!
You’ll all be there one day, so good luck
