It’s amazing what you can find when you have more time to research!
Although not all of these are super close relations, it was interesting to find these horses from the same damline (Oldenburger Stamm 94, fokfamilie 772) as our broodmare, Otter’s Pearl (Otti). Otti is currently infoal to Kaleo van Orchid’s, due July 2027. She currently has a c**t foal at foot, Overflow Footloose.

FUTURE TREND - 1.50m level, ranked #35 WBFSH Eventing sire in 2023, also sire of multiple GP showjumpers.

JACKPOT E.B - 1.55m level Showjumper, She also has a son that is competing at 3* level eventing in America.

KNOCKOUT E.B - 1.45m level Showjumper, gelding.

Lanusca -1.40m level , participated in the FEI European Jumping Championship for Juniors (U18) in 2013

Three more 1.40m level horses - First Lady 177, Champus for Ever & Cheyenne Blue.

Gentana IV J - on Sporthorse Data it says she is a Grand Prix Showjumper but I can’t find any FEI results above 1.15m level, so this is questionable.

And of course Gervantus II (1.45m level) and Gervantus II (Siegerhengst Oldenburg 1988) who are both full brothers to Otti’s dam’s dam. They have also sired an Olympic Eventer and a Grand Prix Showjumper.

‘Horse-Bred’ Jumping Ponies: Fashion or Function?

Well, sadly our Machno Carwyn mare is not in foal. Absolutely gutted, as we have now had six unsuccessful attempts with her.

After factoring in the cost to buy her, transporting her approximately 500 miles to us, and six rounds of AI (don’t forget the stallion’s collection fee/shipping cost per every attempt), we have now invested around £7,000 into this mare.

Even if she did get in foal now, her eventual foal would likely sell for several thousand pounds less than what we have already invested, meaning we would still make a significant loss. And, of course, that £7,000 doesn’t include any of the normal day to day costs of keeping a horse, such as feed, bedding, farrier, worming, etc.

Sorry for another negative post, but I’m sharing this because it highlights exactly why I do not tolerate low offers on my foals.

You have absolutely no idea how much it may have cost a breeder just to get that foal safely on the ground!

EDIT:
I think some people are really misinterpreting my point here. I’m not suggesting that foal buyers should be expected to pay more simply because some foals cost more to breed than others. I have never charged more for a foal just because the mare took more attempts to get in foal.

My point is simply that it’s unrealistic to expect well-bred foals to be sold for low four figures. I’ve had plenty of offers between £1,000 and £3,000, and in many cases that simply isn’t a realistic price when you actually factor in all the costs involved in producing a foal.

I think a lot of people genuinely underestimate those costs. I’ve literally had people imply, ‘Well, the stud fee is only £500, so what other costs have you actually got?’
I’m just trying to highlight the reality of the things that actually go on behind the scenes to bring some of these foals into the world..

I am the creator of the Facebook group Sport Ponies - Worldwide, which I started back in 2018 and has since grown to over 42,000 members.

In 2022, I created the accompanying Sport Ponies Worldwide blog as somewhere to share research, articles and information relating to sport pony breeding, pedigrees, genetics and performance.

While completing my Master of Research in Equine Science, I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked to research and write articles for the site. Now that my thesis is complete, I finally have a little more time to dedicate to it and have recently published several new short articles. My full Master’s thesis is also available to read on the website.

I make absolutely no profit from the website. It is genuinely just a passion project and something I enjoy working on, with the hope that it can become a useful and interesting resource for fellow sport pony breeders, owners and enthusiasts.

So this pony , Kaleb van Orchid’s, has been going viral on tiktok recently, and that’s probably not surprising with the way he jumps! But did you know, our own Kaleo van Orchid’s is his 3/4 brother? They share the same sire x damsire combination. (Kanshebber x Orchid’s Cestanii). This is no coincidence- when I was 14 years old and first bought Leo, I had already done my research! I wanted this specific ‘nick’. Unfortunately it hasn’t always been easy trying to market these bloodlines in the UK, because it is names that most people here don’t know, therefore it also means most people don’t care. Which is a shame, because Kanshebber has actually sired more ponies in jumping AND eventing than any other stallion at the European Pony Championships in the last decade (and I now have done the research to prove that!) - the majority of those ponies are out of mares that are also closely related to Leo’s dam!
Pretty impressive considering Kanshebber was only ever available naturally, therefore had fairly modest foal crops compared to most of the famous pony stallions in Europe.
Kaleo van Orchid’s is one of only two breeding males from this line in the UK. We only have limited frozen semen left from him and his foals are available exclusively at our stud. We are looking forward to our two foals infoal to him, due next year.

Our last two mares to scan for the season. On the left Woodbury’s Capella by Machno Carwyn and on the right Bernwode Top Model by Top Yellow. Both have had some amazing offspring before I got them so hopefully they want to play ball and get infoal for me 🤞😅
