MATCH REPORT | National Village Cup
🏏 Lawrenny CC 151 all out (32 overs) beat Bronwydd CC 119 all out (31.1 overs) by 32 runs

Bronwydd CC’s National Village Cup journey came to an end on Sunday as a strong Lawrenny side claimed a 32-run victory at Cnwc Y Deri.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Lawrenny posted 151 before being bowled out in the 32nd over. Bronwydd’s bowlers worked tirelessly to keep the visitors within reach, led superbly by Soyeb Nagori, who produced an outstanding spell of 5-32 from 8 overs. Krish Vaja provided excellent support with 3-18 from 5 overs, while Tom Johnston chipped in with 1-24 from 6 overs.

Chasing 152 for victory, Bronwydd never quite managed to build the partnerships required. James Brown top scored with 31, while Gethin Francis contributed 19 and Gareth John added 15. Despite moments of promise, Lawrenny’s attack kept taking wickets at crucial stages and eventually bowled Bronwydd out for 119.

While the result is disappointing, there was no shortage of effort from the home side, who battled hard throughout against quality opposition.

The defeat means Bronwydd are now knocked out of the National Village Cup for another year. The club would like to thank everyone who came along to support and create a fantastic atmosphere.

Congratulations to Lawrenny CC on their victory. They were deserved winners on the day and Bronwydd CC would like to wish them the very best of luck in the next round and for the remainder of their Village Cup campaign.

Da iawn i’r merched a wnaeth chwarae mewn gwyl criced heddi yn Llangennech. Ennill y gêm gyntaf a cholli’r ail mewn gêm agos. Dechrau da i’r tymor yn enwedig gyda tair yn chwarae eu gemau cyntaf o griced.

Well done to the girls that played in a cricket festival today at Llangennech. They won the first and narrowly lost the second game. Great start to the season, especially with three of them playing their first games of cricket.

🏏 MATCH REPORT | BRONWYDD CC 2nd XI beat Swansea & Civil Service CC 4th XI by 7 wickets 🏏

Bronwydd CC 2nd XI continued their excellent season with a convincing 7-wicket victory over Swansea & Civil Service CC 4th XI, a result that keeps them firmly at the top of Division 5 West.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Bronwydd produced a disciplined bowling and fielding performance to restrict the visitors to 85 all out from 37.2 overs.

The bowling attack shared the wickets around, with Matthew Bagshaw leading the way with superb figures of 3-22 from 8 overs. He was well supported by Soyeb Nagori, who returned 2-12 from 6 overs, while Mayank Gautam chipped in with 2-15 from 6 overs. Tight bowling throughout the innings ensured Swansea & Civil Service never managed to build any meaningful partnerships.

With rain affecting the match, Bronwydd were set a revised target of 86 from 40 overs and made light work of the chase.

At the top of the order, James Brown anchored the innings with a composed 33 from 52 balls, including five boundaries. Carwyn Axford then accelerated the scoring with an eye-catching 20 from just 13 deliveries, striking four fours, while Jacob Jenkinson contributed a useful 15 as Bronwydd reached 86/3 in just 20.1 overs.

The victory earned Bronwydd the full 20 points, extending their lead at the summit of Division 5 West and maintaining the momentum built over the opening weeks of the season.

A professional all-round performance from Bronwydd, with the bowlers setting up the victory before the batters calmly completed the chase to secure another important win. 💙

🏏 MATCH REPORT | BRONWYDD CC 221/7 beat Llanelli CC 158 all out by 63 runs 🏏

Bronwydd CC produced one of their most complete performances of the season to secure a commanding 63-run victory over Llanelli CC.

After being asked to bat, Bronwydd posted an excellent 221/7 from their 42 overs, built around a superb innings from Carwyn Jones, who led the way with 63 from 71 balls, including seven boundaries and two maximums. He was well supported by Gareth John, whose patient 59 from 89 deliveries helped lay the foundations for a competitive total, while Deshan Jayakumar added a valuable 30 from 36 balls to maintain the momentum through the middle overs.

With 222 required for victory, Llanelli started positively but were continually pegged back by a disciplined Bronwydd bowling attack.

Tom Gleeson was outstanding, returning figures of 4 wickets for 19 runs from 8 overs, breaking key partnerships and putting Llanelli under constant pressure. Philip Howell continued the good work with an excellent spell of 3 wickets for 14 runs from just 3.3 overs, while Florian Cartwright claimed 3 wickets for 49 runs to help wrap up the innings.

Despite a determined effort from the home team, Bronwydd’s bowlers and fielders remained sharp throughout, eventually dismissing Llanelli for 158 in 38.3 overs.

The victory sees Bronwydd collect the maximum 20 points and continue to build momentum as the season progresses.

A strong all-round display and another excellent team performance from Bronwydd CC. 💙
