Congratulations to everyone who graduated in Carmarthen last week! We were especially proud to see so many of our Academy students graduate after being with us since their very first day.

Wishing you all the very best for the future—we can’t wait to see what you achieve next!

🏆 2025/26 UWTSD Sports Person of the year award goes to:

** IESTYN WOOD**

A message from head of the academy Lee:
The winner of the final award of the evening received this award for their dedication they showed towards the academy and their sport.
One of the faces of UWTSD and their sport over the last 3 years and this individual is part of the first batch of students that have fully come through the Academy.
This person epitomises everything we stand for and has fully embraced the Academy of Sport concept. Their commitment to their team in all on field and off field aspects has been immense including being vice captain and captain over the last two seasons in a highly successful period for their team.
Alongside this and their studies this person has also juggled starting their own sports therapy practice and being a semi-professional rugby player in the SRC.

🏆 2025/26 UWTSD Individual athlete of the year award goes to:

**BEKKA PRATT**

A message from head of Academy Lee:
The winner of this award has represented UWTSD at the BUCS Athletics National Championships both indoor and outdoor for the last two years. A masters degree student she completes in multiple athletic events. For example at this years BUCS Indoor National Championships in Sheffield she competed in the pole vault, 60m sprint, long jump and shot. She actually made the shot final with a personal best throw which is no mean feat considering there are Olympic athletes competing. She is another example of one of our students balancing studying for a higher degree while competing at an Elite level.

🏆 2025/26 UWTSD Netball Player of the year award goes to:

**EMILY HOPKINS**

A message from head coach Hannah:
Throughout the season, we have been fortunate to have so many exceptional players who have consistently demonstrated commitment, skill, determination, and teamwork. It has been fantastic to see the development of players across the squad, with so many individuals growing in confidence, improving their performances, and making significant contributions to the team's success.

One player stood out through her consistent performance, dedication, and impact both on and off the court. She performed at the highest standard throughout the season and represented the university in every match. Not only is she an incredibly talented athlete, but she is also a fantastic player.

Her achievements this season has been brilliant. She was awarded Player of the Match 5 times out of 7 matches, highlighting the influence she has whenever she stepped onto the court. She also finished as Trinity's top goal scorer, playing a huge role in helping us become the highest-scoring university in our division.

Voted not only by her coach for this award but also but her fellow teammates. Her commitment, talent, work ethic, and positive attitude has been influential to our success this season, making her a thoroughly deserving recipient of the Netball Player of the Year award.

A message from Rich Thomas head of academy therapy:
Many students from various courses have been involved with the academy sports teams this season. Including Sports Therapy, Sport & exercise Science and Sports coaching. With many students supporting the Academy this year it was difficult to pick someone out but one student showed commitment throughout the season and was a key contributor to one team in particular. Travelling with the team on many occasions, even as far as Exeter in dismal weather, this level 5 Student has juggled his academic commitments and family commitments to ensure that the Rugby team had medical cover this season. Often collecting tape and kit etc before the game. The only thing he is still working on is remembering the difference between left and right legs🙌🏼

🏆 2025/26UWTSD Rugby Player of the year award goes to:

**CERITH DAVIES**

A message from head coach Gareth:
Cerith is a first year Primary Education student who plays for Builth Wells and Llandovery RFC. Cerith has been a key player for the squad this year with numerous, dominant carries from the back row alongside his crunching tackles and work over the ball. He was awarded 3 individual Man of the Match awards and was a hugely popular member of the team.

Outside the University. Cerith also made a massive impact at his home club, Builth Wells, helping them to an excellent second place in Division 1 West. He made his Super Rygbi Cymru debut for Llandovery RFC against Pontypool and will be hoping to add to his appearances over the coming season.

The award was just recognition for a superb season for Cerith, da iawn ti!!

Owain Davies
In a season where the double was won by UWTSD Football, it was incredibly tough to narrow it down to one specific player when so many had stood out. But Owain, showed so many outstanding characteristics not just through his technical and tactical ability on the field, but also through his dedication to the programme and his own personal development, which can also be seen in his successes away from campus at Ammanford Town AFC. His commitment to attendance, for training and games, his drive to encourage others around him were all key attributes in our teams success and him being named our Player of the season!!

At the end of last month the 4th annual Academy of Sport Presentation was held at the Vivian Hall in Swansea. Players had the chance to celebrate all the sporting achievements throughout the year.
