Freetime Outdoors

Freetime Outdoors Helping you enjoy and get the most out of the hills since 1970. Hill Skills Tutor. I am also a DofE Supervisor and Assessor.

Over the years I have been fortunate to have accumulated many rich experiences in the mountains. From my earliest days of teaching skiing I realised what a great experience it is to pass on my knowledge. After many years (30 years overdue someone said) I became qualified as a rock climbing instructor (SPA) and then as a Mountain Leader (MLs). I now take individuals and groups out into the hills. F

rom Duke of Edinburgh to year 7 kids to adults in all conditions. In addition I help train and assess budding ML's. I am fully insured and First Aid qualified. When I’m not doing all that I am teaching evening classes for Community Learning – helping to build individual learners’ confidence and giving them the skills to be in the mountains. I love everything to do with Mountaineering, Hillwalking, Skiing, Ski Touring, Rock Climbing, Adventure Travel, Backpacking as well as some of the gear that you will need for Mountain Biking, Road Bilking, and many other outdoor activities.. Member of British Mountaineering Club, Carlisle Mountaineering Club,

Wandering in our local "empty quarter " today.
Tudhope - Cauldcleuch Head round. Chilly on top. Tempting distant views from Cheviot to the Solway.
Saw two people; one o the hill and another mowing grass at Billhope Cottage.

I can't take any credit for Ross's photographic skills but I'm sure being a Mountain Leader makes his journey easier.

After a few requests for prints, I’ve added the recent images that I’ve shared from Ben Nevis to the Store on my website in the Lochaber & Mamores section.

Please click on the link below to browse my selection of prints from across the mountains of Scotland and the Lake District:

ML Training expedition.
A tough weekend. Mostly dry with snow and hail showers and a very strong wind on the Saturday. The wind calmed for our night nav which was pleasant. As predicted the rain and wind arrived with a vengeance on Sunday morning. No relief for the next eight hours.
Everyone was prepared and coped really well with the elements!
