Newlaithes FC Ladies

Newlaithes FC Ladies The current setup began during season 2005/06 as 1st year U14s. There was a nucleus of players that had been with the club since U10 days.

Members of the Cumberland FA Women's League

2024 League , League Cup Champions

2007/08 as 1st year U16s, we wen

t one better and were crowned County League Champions.

2008/09 the good progress continued as we won an historic treble, winning the Longhorn U16 League, League Cup and County Cup. We were also unbeaten throughout the season, conceding only 7 goals in all competitions. We are also proud to have represented Cumberland FA in the Northern Regional Finals of the Tesco Cup at Wythenshawe.

2009/10 we made the big step into Women's football, competing in the Cumbria Women's League. We finished in 6th place and were only 1 win away from achieving our pre-season target of a top half finish. We did achieve some success though as runners-up in the League Cup - a fantastic achievement for such a relatively young squad.

2010/11 the progress was maintained and we finished runners-up in the League, finishing only two points behind the champions. We were also runners-up in the League Cup for the second year running.

2011/12 saw the start of a new era for the team with several of the established squad members having left for university during the previous summer. This opened the door for a crop of talented young players who very quickly found their feet in Women's football, helping the team to win the League cup final.

2012/13 the young players continued to establish themselves with the team finishing runners-up in both the Cumbria Women's League and the League Cup.

2013/14 saw more changes and with the addition of a number experienced players we won the Cumbria Women's League Cup for the 2nd time, finishing 3rd in the league.

2014/15 It was announced that there wouldn't be a Cumbria Women's League so we took the decision to join the Northumberland County Women's Football League (NCWFL). It was a frustrating season as we struggled with player availability but were still able to finish mid table. The summer of 2015 saw the inaugural Cumbria Women's Summer League and we finished Champions with a 100% record.

2015/16 we were boosted by the signing of some young players as well as the return to the game of some former players, we had a better season in the NCWFL finishing runners-up in the league cup

In the summer of 2016 we retained the Cumbria Women's league title and also won the league cup.

2017 we won the newly named Cumberland FA Women's League for the 3rd year running. A fantastic achievement given the number of injuries we encountered.

2018 we finished runners-up having gone the whole season unbeaten. Unfortunately we were deducted 3 points as we were unable to field a team for a fixture and we lost the resulting play-off. There was some consolation as we retained the league cup.

2019 we once again completed the league and cup double, winning all but one of our matches.

2020 unfortunately the season was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

2021 we were back in action as the restrictions were lifted and we went on to retain the league title, once again winning all but one of our games. We are always looking to strengthen the squad and welcome enquiries from new players. Any player aged 16 or above is eligible to play Women's football so if you would like to join a friendly and enthusiastic team then please contact us through this page.

Thursday night saw us travel to Workington to take on Penrith Titans in the final of the league cup. Right from the first whistle, the game was very end to end and we had to defend compactly to deal with some impressive football from Penrith. The majority of the first half saw us work our way into the game and try to break down a solid Penrith back line. A number of changes saw us create a few chances after some good play from Kerri Mallinson and Abi Telford at striker and on the left wing.

We went into half time at 0-0 and took the positives from a solid defensive display. The second half saw Penrith play some fantastic football and we struggled to deal with their use of the wide areas of the pitch. We went 1-0 down after a good ball through the middle of the field as calmly finished into the bottom right corner. As usual, the girls showed some real grit and worked together to try and get an equaliser, even changing the line up around. However, we went 2-0 after a fantastic long-range effort. Unfortunately, the score line remained the same until the end of the match and the final whistle saw Penrith named league cup winners.

Congratulations to Penrith on an impressive campaign this season!

The girls have had another fantastic season themselves. Going unbeaten in the league for the second year in a row! Well done lasses, you should all be proud of yourselves.

Also a massive thank you to everyone who as supported us this season.

The leauge title is secured!! 🧡🖤

Last night the girls travelled to barrow to take on Vickerstown in our penultimate leauge game.

After a long journey down the girls started of the game a little bit behind pace and went 1-0 down quite quickly after a good run from one of the Vickerstown forward players.

From there on we found our tempo and started to play attacking football which eventually resulted in us levelling up the game after a goal mouth scramble was turned into the net by Chelsea Norris. We took the lead not long after when the ball fell to right back Vicky Jackson who hit it brilliantly and found the back of the net on the fly from inside her own half! Not a bad way to mark her first goal for the club!

The second half brought with it a more direct style of play from us and we fought to win every loose ball. Some persistent pressing and brilliant two touch passing from the centre of the pitch meant Katie Sibley found herself behind the Vickerstown back line and found the top corner from the left wing.

The girls fought hard from here to the final whistle and defended brilliantly to deal with some good use of the wide areas from the home team. The game finished with a 3-2 win that brought with it the leauge title with a game to spare. A huge congratulations to everyone involved with the club and massive thank you to everyone who has supported us through what has been our toughest season yet!

Our player of the match was Chelsea Murray who played a number of positions and didn’t stop running for the entirety of the game.

Also a special mention goes to Emily Howarth who played her final game for the team as she prepares to move home. Thank you for all your hard work Em, you’ve been fantastic and will be missed by all of us!!

Well done to Vickerstown and good luck for the remainder of your games.

We face Xtreme fitness ladies next Wednesday as we look to remain undefeated for the whole season. 7.15 KO at the sheepmount.

On Wednesday we travelled to Penrith in what was a top of the table clash with Penrith Titans. In what was an extremely high pressure game, the girls started on top and went 1-0 up within ten minutes after a fantastic strike from Nicola Waugh.

The girls worked hard to keep the ball and make some quick passes against a lively and high pressing Penrith. Nicola netted again after a brilliant run from the left wing and a great bit of determination in the middle of the park from Stacey Harkness Grant.

We took the 2-0 lead into half time and the second half brought one of the most determined performances we’ve put on all season. Penrith made some great runs and leathal passes and made the game 2-1 mid way through the second half. The girls put their heads down and saw out the game with grit and class thanks to a brilliant team effort and great saves from goal keeper Sophie Paton.

Well done to Penrith on a great performance. We now sit four points ahead at the top of the table and travel to Barrow next week to take on Vickerstown.

On Wednesday night we took on Whitehaven AFC Ladies Blues. We started of positively as did Whitehaven which resulted in a very end to end opening ten minutes. Whitehaven were determined to play out from the back and after a good passage of play for them they won a corner and went 1-0 up from a goof header at the back post. However, we did not panic and used the next 15 minutes to regroup and start to play ourselves into the game.

We came close after a number of good crosses from the right and left wings and our equaliser came after a determined run from Emily Howarth up the left wing resulted in Chelsea Norris receiving the ball on the edge if the box. She made no mistake from this distance and found the bottom corner. We went into half time with the score line 1-1 and felt confident with our plan for the second half.

From the restart we dominated the rest of the game with Whitehaven rarely getting out of their own half. We started to find our forward players brilliantly and made some penetrating passes through the middle of the pitch. Some fantastic determination resulted in us having a number of near misses, but we managed to take the lead after a goal mouth scramble resulted in us finding the bottom corner again. We then sealed our win after a corner from the right side found Nicola Waugh who finished it off in her usual calm manner. Another fantastic win for the girls who played with determination, confidence and worked hard for each other from the first minute.

Well done to Whitehaven and good look for the rest of your games!

We go again next Thursday against Penrith Titians. 7.15 KO.

Wednesday night saw us take on Carlisle United Ladies Development and come away with a 3-0 win.

As so many of our games do, it started of a bit end to end but as the first half went on we managed to play free flowing football and confine Carlisle to their own half. We went 1-0 up quite quickly and from there on continued to create chances thanks to some fantastic runs and strong defending from back to front. We took a 2-0 lead into half time.

The second half brought more of the same as we won every loose ball and managed to work our way up the pitch using both wings. The girls put in nothing short of a fantastic effort in hot conditions and didn’t stop running for each other and were rewarded with another goal to seal the win.

Well done to Carlisle and good luck for the rest of your games.

We go again next Thursday away to Vickerstown. 7.15 KO. UTN 🧡🖤

Last night we took on Stanwix Ladies Juniors Hornets for the second time this season on what was a very warm evening. As always, it was a very testing game that saw us give our all. However, we couldn’t find the back of the net and the game finished 0-0.

We started of struggling to keep the ball down and had to defend compactly to stop some good passages of play through the middle of the park from Stanwix. As the game progressed, we started to keep the ball more confidently but had minimal chances in the final third due to us not using our wide players and some brilliant defending from Stanwix. We had one close effort in the first half after a fantastic cross from the right side was flicked backwards by Nicola Waugh and narrowly missed the front post.

The second half brought more of the same as we utilized our substitutes to try and freshen up the game. We dominated possession and tried testing the keeper from long range but could not make a breakthrough. Towards the end of the game, we threw everything we had into finding the back of the net and come close when Nicola Waugh again made some fantastic runs up the right wing. Despite best efforts we came away with only a point.

Well done to Stanwix who defended brilliantly and made some great saves despite a change of keeper at half time. Good luck for the rest of the season!

We go again next week against Workington Town Wildcats. 7.15 KO at the Sheepmount. See you all there!

Last night marked the halfway point in our season and brought another three points to continue our unbeaten run. Despite our best efforts we struggled to string together passes at the start of the game and had to work hard to defend our own half. As a result of some good play from Whitehaven down our right side, we went 1-0 down not long into the first half. From there, we managed to gain some composure and work the ball from back to front with our usual free flowing football. We created a number of chances and the equalizer came after 35 minutes when Katie Sibley found the bottom right corner from a scramble in the box.

Half time saw the lasses regroup and change our tactics slightly to be able to dominate the second half. We dominated possession and won our individual battles brilliantly, which created numerous chances. We played the ball into our forward players quickly who found our wingers, allowing them to play some fantastic balls into the box. Two goals from Stacey Harkness Grant and a fantastic effort from long range from Emily Howarth (her first goal for the club) saw us take control of the game. From there on we defended and pressed as a team despite the hot and humid conditions and managed to limit Whitehavens chances and possession. However, they managed to bag another goal of their own after a brilliant cross from their left wing and a first-time header. The final score was 4-2.

Well done to Whitehaven and good luck for the rest of the season.

Jordan Cannon said:

“Well tonight started off very slow for us, unfortunately going a goal down early on in the half and not really building up any passages of play or chances for the first 20-25 minutes. As the half went on though we definitely grew in to the game and started linking up play together eventually pulling back a goal before half time. Half time did us good to regroup, and the second half we got out of first gear and went onto see the game out. Our opponent was a well oiled side with young quick players who were always a threat on the attack, with both goalkeepers on both sides making some great saves to keep the game alive”

Next week we face Stanwix Juniors Ladies Hornets in another local derby. 7.15 KO at Rickerby Park. See you all there.
