🥉 Historic BUCS bronze for Aidan!

Second-year Physiotherapy student Aidan Docherty has made university history after winning bronze in karate (-84kg category) at the recent British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships – the first ever karate medal for the University of Cumbria at this prestigious national event!

Aidan, who has trained in karate since the age of five, is a 3rd Dan black belt and an England international, having represented the national team at both the Under 21 European Championships in Georgia and the Senior European Championships in Croatia. His achievements already include five English National Championship titles, multiple international medals, and a Commonwealth gold medal. 🥋

Alongside his studies, Aidan also runs two karate clubs in Carlisle and Dalston, inspiring the next generation of athletes.

We are incredibly proud of Aidan for this outstanding achievement and look forward to seeing what the future holds. 👏

The main purpose of the YDP is to continue to nurture and prepare the young athletes for domestic, international and WKF events. This includes helping the athletes & families financially to be able to compete abroad. We hope that the work we do will stand them in good stead for their future in karate competition.

Within the YDP the ranking points system will run throughout the year. Each athlete will have their own ranking points profile and will collect points based on positive performances at selected events, with the highest ranked athletes selected to represent the YDP and be fully funded at a chosen event.

The ranking points table will be live for all parents and athletes to view at any time.

Below you can find details of what ranking points will be awarded as well as the events chosen to collect ranking points for the next few months.
