Really enjoying working 1-to-1 with Luca and supporting the development of his throwing.

The progress he’s made over the past few weeks has been incredibly rewarding to see, but what has impressed me most is how coachable he is.

Luca listens, asks questions, takes feedback on board and, most importantly, works hard to apply it. He’s willing to make adjustments, repeat the process and keep working until things start to click.

That ability to receive feedback, reflect and then put it into practice is such an important quality in a developing player.

There’s still plenty for us to work on, but his commitment to improving and willingness to learn are really starting to show in his throwing.

Great work, Luca. Keep building.

Scrumdamentals Session 5.

Today’s session was themed around competition. Scrum games and practices where we got the players competing for points within their teams.

THE SCRUM DOESN’T LIE.

You can talk about technique.
You can draw it on a whiteboard.
You can analyse clips.

But eventually, you have to get in there and feel it.

Scrummaging is built through repetition, pressure, feedback and problem solving.

As coaches, our job isn’t simply to tell players where to put their feet, binds or heads.

It’s to help them understand why.

Why did we lose our shape?
Where did the pressure come from?
What did you feel?
What can you change on the next rep?

The best scrum environments are where players are encouraged to think, adapt and take ownership of their performance.

Coach the picture.
Coach the feeling.
Coach the decision.

Then let the players scrum.

The one aspect I love about our Scrumdamentals sessions is how we coach and develop the scrum through a balanced, games-based approach.

We use games to focus on shape and profile, develop competition and cognitive thinking, but the biggest reason is to make sure players are having fun, building confidence and becoming comfortable in their scrum shape.

Using our Scrum Game Cards, we play games such as 2 Fast 2 Furious, Cat and Mouse, Scrum Chess, Connect 4, and Snakes and Ladders.

Scrumdamentals Session 3 recap!

🎯 1:1 Throwing Session with Luca

A big focus during today’s session was on grip and hand placement.

For any ho**er looking to develop their throwing, understanding the importance of the grip is fundamental. It’s not simply about holding the ball — every finger and thumb has a specific role.

Getting the small details right can make a big difference to the quality and accuracy of the throw.
