Spit and Sawdust is a multi-aspect community space in Cardiff, centred around an indoor skate park with a shop, café and creative programme. Come and visit us! Street skating has largely inspired the design of the skate park - we’ve had input from over 100 skaters, bladers and riders into the development of the layout. The park is loaded with street based obstacles such as banks, blocks, hips, a h

andrail, and a bank to wall. We have transition consisting of a 4ft high, 19ft wide birch covered mini-ramp and a double quarter to vert wall. There is also a small shop in partnership with City Surf selling clothing, and hardware for skateboarders, inliners, scooter riders and BMXers. In our café we aim is to serve tasty, honest grub in friendly surroundings. Quality of ingredients and their origins is very important to us. All our food is homemade, all meat and eggs are free-range and organic and local ingredients and suppliers are used as much as possible. Things you can expect on the menu include homemade burgers, chips, onion rings, cakes, milkshakes and fabulous coffees from our beast of a coffee machine Colin! We also have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Throughout the space we support a programme of one-off events, performances, screenings, exhibitions and residencies giving creative practitioners from all art forms a platform to experiment and present work. We offer our café and other spaces for use by community groups and similar organisations for meetings, workshops, training and homework clubs. We are always looking for people to work with to help deliver exciting and worthwhile projects – so if you’re interested please get in touch.

Sunday 19th July 10am–4pm

Join artist and printmaker Shaun James from Things in the Studio for a relaxed, hands-on introduction to screen printing.

In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to turn your own drawings and hand-made marks into a one-colour screen print using mark-resist film, a specialist transparent drawing surface that captures beautiful lines, textures, washes and painterly marks.

Shaun will guide you through the process step by step, from making your artwork, to exposing it onto a screen, to printing your own small edition on paper. You will be introduced to a range of drawing and mark-making techniques, then given time to create your own image before printing it yourself.

No previous screen-printing experience is needed. All materials are provided. You just need to be happy to experiment, make marks, get a bit inky and try something new.

You will print and take home 5 copies of your own one-colour screen print.
