Sport Wales The voice of sport in Wales. Welsh

Every child deserves to enjoy being active. 😊

At Clwb Sarn Helen Club fun isn't an added extra. It's at the heart of every session.

Children are encouraged to share their ideas, make choices and help shape their own experiences. Coaches listen, adapt and create opportunities that meet the needs of the young people taking part.

Through inclusive, bilingual sessions, children of all abilities can feel welcome, build confidence and enjoy being active alongside their friends.

This is what the Foundations Framework Wales is all about. Creating positive experiences that help children and young people develop a love of sport and physical activity for life. 🫶

When Callie Hammond realised there weren’t many opportunities for children in her community to enjoy gymnastics, she decided to do something about it. With a newborn on her hip and a big dream in her head, she trained as an instructor and launched Back to Roots Gymnastics Club

At Back to Roots Gymnastics, the number one goal is to get children moving, laughing and feeling good about themselves. 😀

From fun games that encourage movement through play to a class wish box that allows children to share ideas and influence activities.

Callie’s sessions at Back to Roots Gymnastics showcases the Foundations Framework Wales in action. Showing how great experiences in sport can build confidence, motivation and belonging, which supports a lifetime enjoyment of sport. 💫

Croesyceiliog Canoe Club helped Asher find his voice and confidence.

Attending since he was a child, Asher's decision to join the club was a huge step. He is autistic, has ADHD and is Trans, and can find new social situations uncomfortable.

But Croesyceiliog Canoe Club is a welcoming and no-pressure environment, and Asher found a community where he can reset each week, calm his nervous system and be completely himself.

Asher's confidence has gone from strength to strength, and he now delivers webinars and presentations on issues he's passionate about from climate to diversity education.

Croesyceiliog Canoe Club invested National Lottery Good Causes funding via Sport Wales into instructor training for Asher and a few other members, a storage container and kit, helping more young people like Asher access a therapeutic activity surrounded by nature.

Keen to give back to the club that has given him so much, Asher also enjoys teaching new members the skills he's learnt and is looking ahead to becoming a coach.

Every athlete has a story. And every story starts somewhere.

As our Chair, Tanni Grey-Thompson, highlights, it starts with the people and places that make sport feel welcoming.

A coach who encourages. A club that opens its doors. A community that makes a child feel they belong. 🤝

These are the moments that can spark a lifelong love of sport.

Mynydd Du Climbing & Mountaineering Club is helping women like Hannah get involved in sport.

By investing National Lottery Good Causes funding via Sport Wales into equipment to make the sport more affordable for families, this club is making sure mums can step off the side-lines and onto the climbing wall.

Hannah was finding it hard making time to keep active with young children, so her husband Rob suggested they all go climbing together as a family.

Since joining, Hannah and her family have been scaling the walls ever since, working together as beginners on problem-solving moves, overcoming height jitters and celebrating their achievements.

Hannah now wants to qualify as a climbing wall instructor with ambitions to become a mountain leader so she can help out at the club, no doubt inspiring more women like herself to step off the side-lines.

Role models matter.

For young people watching sport, seeing athletes give their all, support each other and share those special moments can leave a lasting impression.

Female role models are particularly important for encouraging girls to take part in sport in Wales, as they are less active than boys.✨

Team Wales’ women have celebrated each other’s successes, lifted each other up and shown what it means to compete with pride.

The medals and memories will be remembered but so will the example they have set for those watching on. 🤗

Huge thank you to for their incredible support in funding 18 cricket projects across Wales, totalling £78,850.

This investment will help more clubs, schools and communities grow the game, strengthen local opportunities, and open more doors for people to get involved.

We’ll keep working alongside partners across the nation to make cricket a sport for all.
