It's been 2 years since we have had a tournament, and the national schedule won't allow it this year, so we were very excited when Preston Galloway's Gladiators agreed to come play us at Newbridge Athletic Fields on Saturday!
We kicked off our friendly game after a social lunch, since they'd been on the bus for hours.
The Away team opened up the day with a hit from Preston's Dani that allowed him to get to 2nd.
There were loads of good hits, but the damp grass proved a challenge to overcome, and the only other player to poke one through the wet field was South Wales Dragons' Judi Brown.
We are super grateful for Preston coming down for some game time. We are also massively grateful for all the helpers that allowed this day to come off as a success. They are all diamonds.
Coach holly is super proud of all the players, who have all improved so much, and also super proud of all the young people from Baseball Softball Gwalia who gave up their afternoons to be youth ambassadors - leaders in the community.
It was a great day full of baseball fun and laughs. Can't wait for the next one!

Baseball really is a game for EVERYONE — and today at Bridgend Rec, we got to see that in action! 🙌
Saturday 12th September saw Blind Baseball Cymru welcome Preston Galloway’s Gladiators to Bridgend Rec for a fantastic day of blind baseball, hosted by Blind Baseball Cymru and co-organised by Coach Holly from Baseball Softball Gwalia.
But today wasn’t just about the players on the diamond…
🌟 Our Baseball Softball Gwalia youth players played a HUGE part in making the day happen! 🌟
A group of our young players, Ollie, Ben, Sophia, Chloe & Alan, stepped up to support the games, taking on a variety of roles including:
👏 Base clappers – providing those all-important sounds to help guide the runners
⚾ Field umpires – gaining valuable experience and helping keep the games running smoothly
🏃 Outfielders – getting involved directly on the field and supporting the action
It was fantastic to see our young players working alongside the blind baseball teams, learning about a different form of the sport and, most importantly, seeing first-hand how baseball can bring people together regardless of age or ability.
For us at Baseball Softball Gwalia, inclusion isn't just something we talk about — it's something we want to put into practice.
Today was a brilliant example of what can happen when players, coaches, volunteers and young people all come together with a shared love of baseball. ⚾️👏
A massive WELL DONE to everyone who played, coached, umpired, clapped, supported and helped make the day such a success! 🙌
