Most people think they know what they’d do in a situation like this… until it actually happens.

A strangle hold is one of the most common forms of assault. Panic is natural — but training replaces panic with instinct.

In this clip I’m showing simple, practical escapes from single-hand and double-hand choke holds that anyone can learn. These techniques focus on:

• Protecting your airway
• Breaking the attacker’s balance
• Creating space to escape safely

You don’t need to be strong, athletic, or experienced to learn how to defend yourself — you just need the right training and a supportive environment.

That’s exactly what we focus on in our classes.

To every student, training partner, and member of our Gracie Barra Cardiff family —

Thank you. Truly.

Thank you for your commitment, your discipline, your respect on the mats, and the energy you bring into the academy week after week. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is never just about technique — it’s about character, resilience, humility, and looking after one another. You embody that every time you train.

This year we’ve seen growth not only in skill, but in confidence, camaraderie, and community. New starters finding their feet, experienced students lifting others up, tough rounds followed by laughter and mutual respect — that’s what makes this place special.

Whether you train once a week or every session you can, whether you compete or train purely for personal growth, you are a valued part of this team. The mats don’t work without the people on them.

Enjoy the time with your families and loved ones over Christmas. Rest, recover, eat well — and come back hungry to train in the New Year. Big things are ahead, and we move forward together.
