🚨 Match Report 🚨

On a fine Sunday morning, a sea of coral descended on Faversham town centre as the mighty Bourne FC began their build up to the big day ahead. Wetherspoons was the destination, for fry ups, eggs benedict and even the odd fruit bowl... the breakfast of champions. Once all was consumed we strolled around town taking in the scenery and letting the atmosphere build before embarking on a short journey to the stadium.

When we arrived the mind games had already started. Our opponents stole the home dressing room and all the amenities that comes with it, which left us in the dark and dingy away dressing room. We didn't let it dampen our spirits and instead headed out onto the pitch to take it all in, knock a few balls around and get some nice photos. Fav Town must have liked what they saw and did their best attempts at replicating it, but couldn't carry it off with the same type of swagger.

We prepared well with a great warm up, tunes blaring in the changers and final instructions from the captain and gaffer.

From minute one we settled in nicely at the back, Fav Town had a few attacks but the first big chance came our way 5 minutes in. A ball to the left found Gabe, who steadied himself before whipping a cross to the back post to an unmarked Ben who must have had his eyes closed as he made no meaningful contact on the ball and it drifted out for a goal kick.

The next 20 minutes we were in complete control, Matty, Bill and Macca were dominant in possession, drawing the opposition in and then pinging balls over the top. We got in behind several times but couldn't get a goal. Then a big moment in the first half, Richie finds himself in space about 25 yards out and spots the keeper off his line. He lofts the ball over the keeper, we all think its in but it hits the post and Ben follows in the rebound and gets wiped out and dislocates his elbow. The game is stopped whilst Ben received medical attention and unfortunately that signals the end of his game, Tom D coming on as his replacement.

We stayed switched on when play resumed and within 5 minutes we got our first goal. Macca played a long ball up towards Dan, he challenged the cb whos header went the wrong way and Gabe gambled and volleyed the ball into the back of the net. Fully deserved and 1 nil Bourne.

Within 5 minutes Fav Town came close to an equaliser, a ball was whipped in from their right to the back post where they had a player unmarked. Everyone in the ground thought he was going to score but Matty had other ideas... he flung himself to his right and made a world class save which made his head collide with the post but he's made of tough stuff so he brushed it off and carried on.

We had a good chunk of additional time after Bens injury and it was then when we grabbed our second. Dan absolutely bossing it in the middle of the park went on a great run and slid in Andi with a defence splitting pass, he ran through 1 on 1 and slotted the ball into the bottom corner past the on rushing keeper, the stadium errupts as he makes it 2 nil Bourne. Shortly after the half time whistle blows and we go in 2 to the good.

We come back out knowing they are going to to be pushing for a goal and spoke about how we need to deal with it and not sit back and make sure we still play our football. That's exactly how it went, Fav Town came out with a point to prove and started on the front foot. We soaked up most of the pressure except for the occasional attempt from outside the area which Matty dealt with well pulling off some great saves. We were a constant threat on the counter and missed some great chances of our own.

The next big moment came in around the 60th minute when Fav Town were awarded a penalty for handball. The young lad stepped up and unfortunately dragged his shot just wide of the post.
A massive let off and a big turning point in the game. At this moment I need to give a massive shout out to Jack, Tom and Dan for dominating that center midfield and Richie, Gabe and Andi for your relentless running, Croucher, Jon and Matty for your calm heads and Lucas for doing your job to a tee πŸ‘

We started to gain control of the game again and began having fun. Andi was getting plenty of joy down the right, turning their full back inside out on occasions and Dan was unplayable the whole game making some great runs.

Then in around the 70th minute, Tom Dunne gained possession of the ball in the middle of the park and played Richie through 1 on 1, he unselfishly squared the ball to Dan and he made no mistake from 12 yards and buried the ball in the back of the net to make it 3 nil and game over.

We had multiple chances to make it more, Dan's best moment of magic lead to him putting Olly through but he shot just wide. Richie also had a good chance to add a goal but he just didn’t make clean contact with the ball. At the other end Matty Neur made a few routine saves but also a couple more worldies as we professionaly saw out the rest of the game.

3 goals, a clean sheet and a trophy!!

🚨 Match Report 🚨

This Sunday we faced off against fellow Cup finalists Faversham Town Sundays. We rocked up with the bare 11 and no goalkeeper available but backs against the wall is an environment we thrive in. Billy Jemmett went in-between the sticks, and to be fair to him he didn't look out of place... until he cramped up 60 mins in!! Never seen it before, doubt we'll see it again 🀣

The game started off scrappy, with Fav Town playing the better football. An early free kick just outside the area looked to test the stand in gk, but he collected with ease. We didn't really get our foot on the ball often enough but when we did we were a much better team. A few half chances at both ends but nothing clear cut as both defenses stood firm.

Second half we played much better, we had a big chance to go 1 nil up but Ben squandered it. Moments later Fav Town attacked, after 3 ricochets at the edge of the box, the ball falls kindly into their players path about 16 yards out, he takes a touch and fires it into the top corner. 1 nil Fav Town.

Heads could have dropped but we responded pretty quickly, Andi did some good work out on the left, cut back onto his right foot and whipped in a dangerous cross which the keeper parried but Ben was on hand to head home from 4 yards out. Game on.

As the 2nd half went on, both teams were guilty of missing so clear cut chances. We won it late on in the last minute of the game. Lucien received the ball out on the right, he takes on his man and drives into the box on the byline and cuts the ball back to Ben who finishes from 2 yards out. 2-1 Bourne Fc.

A huge effort from everyone involved today, we battled our hearts out and take home the 3 points.

Motm goes to Andrew. Solid performance in Left Back, so good we still don't know whether he's left or right footed 🀣
