The IKK Canterbury Karate and Martial Arts Club holds the honor of being the very first International Karate Kyokushinkai club to be opened. Canterbury College

Established in 1996 by Kancho Paul Sarginson, the IKK organisation was built up around the success of the Canterbury club, which is in a prime location close to many surrounding villages such as Bridge and Littlebourne. The main instructors at the club are Kancho Paul, Shihan Russell, Senpai John, Sensei Amy, Senpai Brendon, and Senpai Nicoletta

Hosted in Canterbury colleges sports hall, the club benefits from a wooden floor and its own storage area. It is also out of Canterbury town centre and has its own car park so getting to class and parking is never an issue. The club always gives the students an excellent work out, with the instructors making sure that everyone is both taught their techniques and has the required fitness for their grading. The club has a good turnout with students coming from all other clubs around Kent.

Another busy Sunday knockdown 👊🏻

The club has got a really busy start to autumn and whether they're planning to compete or not, these guys turn up week in, week out and they put the work in.

Great to see some new faces as well as some more familiar ones 😁

Not long to go before our next quiz night!!
After having so much fun last year (might be biased, my winning team trophy is still pride of place🏆😅) we're doing it all over again 🥳

Same venue, Barham Village Hall.
Saturday 19th September.
Doors open 6.30 for a 7pm start.

There is limited seating, so if you're interested in coming please contact myself or Em Brice to 'book' a seat. You can either book as a team of 8 or book a chair and then we can form teams on the night 💪🏻 suggested £5 donation on the door.

Parents, family, friends, everyone is welcome! Although this event is for age 14+, and under 18s must have an adult responsible for them.

Bring snacks for your table and (sensibly) bring your own drinks (some snacks, hot drinks and squash will also be available for a small donation)

We will also be holding a raffle 🎟

This is a cash event and there is no cash machine in Barham, so bring cash and coins!

All profits go to our IKK Competitors funds, which has been funding entry fees for our competitors. So far this year we have covered our fighters entries to the BKK English Open, BKG Open, Haito kata, Haito knockdown and covered entries and some travel costs for IFK Irish Open and KWF Spanish world cup. (If you haven't recieved yours yet its waiting for you next time I see you)

What a great day we had on Saturday!

Thank you to everyone for supporting our very first interclub matched fight event. We had a total of 36 matched bouts, well supported from across the IKK and with invited guest dojo Invictus Martial Arts.

I hope everyone enjoyed their time on the mat and gained some valuable experience from the event.

Huge thank you to all those that helped set up, support and organise the day.

Thank you to Spencer and the reffing team for getting involved.

And a massive thank you to Kancho for all the support and preparation for this.

As everything ran smoothly we hope to make this bigger next time by inviting more organisations to join us for the next one, and hopefully we will be hosting a full novice tournament next year too 🤞🏻😁

What a busy weekend! Think I've just about recovered! 🫠

On saturday we had a team of 6 competing at the HAITO KARATE (Kyokushin) - Sensei Gabi 🥋✨ kata tournament in Peterborough (whilst back at home some of our lower kyu grades were grading for their next belts!).

It was a mega hot day, but despite the heat everyone gave their best. For most of the team it was the first time they had competed in an external tournament, which is a huge achievement in itself.

Lots to learn and improve on, but they managed to bring home three 2nd places and three 3rd places, with all competitors taking part in two categories.

Huge well done to Helen, Martha, Steven, Grace, Deagon and Gemma! Thank you to Haito and all of the judges for putting on another tournament 👏

Then on sunday we had our club grading for 4th kyu and above. Another long (slightly less hot) day, but everyone done extremly well.

A special mention goes to Shihan Russell who was promoted to 6th dan.

We're looking forward to a quieter one this weekend, ahead of our summer camp next week on the 10th-12th July! ⛺️☀️🥋

Good luck to Charlie and Nieve who are competing in the KWF World Tournament in Spain today. It is full contact knockdown tournament, they have trained extremely hard and deserve to do well. Being selected to represent Great Britain as part of Team GB is a great achievement in itself. Keep up the good work.

What makes our Saturday session special is that we run classes for children (6–10 years), teens, adults, and entire family groups at the exact same time! No driving back and forth—the whole family can get fit, learn traditional Kyokushin self-defence, and build unshakeable focus together.

🗓️ Every Saturday Morning at St Stephen’s Junior School:

Children (6–10 years): 9:30am – 10:30am

Teens, Adults, & Families: 9:30am – 10:30am
(We also train at Barton Manor on Thursdays and Canterbury College on Sundays!)

Great day at the BKG Open on Saturday for team IKK.

After a very busy spring for most of our team, we took Lara and Harry to Crystal Palace.

Lara earnt 2nd place after needing to move up a weight category (her category was empty). Great experience and made new friends along the way.

Harry gained 3rd place in his catagory, which was his first experience of competing in a big tournament and managed to finish his last fight in quick 38 seconds! 👏🏻

Amazing work from our fighters and we're really proud of them and the hard work they've put into this.

Thank you to .kyokushin for hosting another great tournament and we look forward to next time 👊🏻
