Some more photo updates of the Spitfire club room. We're in the finishing stages now. The main job left to do is to run the track in and lay lots of rubber down :)

Why Spitfire Slot Car Club?

Going back to the 1st September 1939, Britain was at war with Germany. It wasn't long into the war that Britain became the target of the German Luftwaffe.
Spitifres and Hurricanes from Fighter Command took off from RAF Hawkinge to defend the skies over South East England.
Elham is situated just under four miles (as the crow flies) from what was RAF Hawkinge.
Throughout the summer we regularly see and hear the "Spirit of Kent" Spitfire (based at Biggin Hill) buzzing the skies above Elham.

We named our club in honour of those that fought hard in the skies above Kent.

Another update, Wayne and Nick have both worked very hard putting up the plaster board on the walls and started building the pit area.
It's all starting to take shape. Next week the paint brushes will be out in force as we get ever closer to getting the club 100% functional.
Lots of good things to come over the coming weeks :)

Update!! Firstly, a huge huge thank you to Tony and Dave for their tireless work getting the lap timing system up and running.
A lot of brain storming took place with a hefty dose of rewiring different configurations before the timing system and the computer agreed to work harmoniously together.
With the walls and pit areas being built later this week, all that remains then is repainting the track, colour coding the lanes and general cosmetics, oh and paint the floor too.
Lots of testing today, trying different tyre makes to see what the best options will be.
Here's a short video of a Fly truck turning some laps.

Small update!! Today we cleaned all the track braid. The controller stations still need to be wired in and connected so we ran two wires from the PSU direct to each lane to check continuity of power for lanes two and three (White/Yellow). We made a short video of the lane tests, just to give an idea of the flow of the track.

The cars were running on just 4 volts for this test. We're hoping next week to have power to all four lanes and have the controller stations active. Race Coordinator is now installed on the computer so really not much left to do regarding the track itself.
Main work left is to plaster board the interior, paint the floor and build the pit areas. Once all that is done we should be good to go and race :)

A couple of Pioneer Legends all ready for some future racing at Spitfire SCC.

Some substantial progress today on the Spitfire track. A huge thankyou to Dave Hannington and Tony Mills for coming down to Spitfire HQ and spending the day getting the old timing system up and running.

Although the current incredibly old computer works fine, next week a new computer will arrive, we can then install Race Coordinator on it.

There is still plenty of work to be done to the club room as well as some track repairs but it is all coming together rather nicely.

Added a few photos of the Genesis steel chassis cars we’re hoping to run.
