Hi everyone,

We now accepting new bookings for our children and adults classes in Gravesham.

Our children classes are designed to be socially and financially fair to every family, as well as, maintaining the project alive.

The idea is to make it affordable for everyone, provide the activity to our community, bring the community together and not to make profit. We also offer concession price for parents under benefits. Please check if you qualify to our "Concession Prices".

Capoeira is a 450 Brazilian Art form that evolves music, dance, self-defence, sport and culture.

The first two lessons are free for children. We also offer adults classes.

Muito bom dia todos,

Good evening everyone, I'd love to have started this week. But we decided to isolate as we came in contact with someone who tested positive. Better safe than sorry.

No symptoms from anyone at home yet. I can't say that we are looking forward to have it anyway.

We have received clearance to start our classes at the Prince of Wales, 23a Military Road, Canterbury, every Tuesdays from 7pm. Starting this Thursday, 13th Oct 2020.

Covid-19 measures will be in place as following. So please make sure you are accordingly and in order to be accepted in the training room.

• please arrive and leave already in uniform or training clothes.
• carry alcohol gel with you and please make use of the ones provided by the venue.
• wash your hands up to your elbows and face before and after training.
• avoid physical contact to other members while in the premises.
• sign the attendance/track and trace list with your own pen.
• help clean the area you trained.
• avoid using the toilets. But if needed, please make sure you clean after using it, wash your hands up to your elbows and apply alcohol gel.
• only one person will be allowed in the toilets per time.
• complement one-another from distance.
• always have the positive attitude of leaving the premises cleaner than you found it.
• leave the premises right after the class/duties.
• please change your clothes and have a shower as soon as you get home.
• please note that your temperature might be taken upon your arrival and if it is irregular, we may ask you to refrain from training that day.
• we can only accommodate a limited number of people at the same time. So please make sure you contact us before hand to make sure we have spaces in the class.

It is challenging to follow this simple steps. Mainly when your are in pick and healthy conditions. But let's bare in mind that some people are vulnerable. So its for them that we take care of ourselves.

Q&A with CCCU Capoeira Society

1. What is Capoeira?

Capoeira is an art form comprised of dance, music and self-defence that originates in Brazil, with a rich and storied history. It can appear to be a dance, hiding an effective self-defence system in plain sight in the movements and kicks played to a rhythm, where making your opponent believe can be their mistake. It is played to music and rhythm that creates a uniquely infectious energy, raising the spirits of everyone involved and listening.

2. What can Capoeira offer?

Capoeira can offer so much to all involved. It can help with physical and mental health, strength, flexibility and confidence. Whether learned as a defence system or a dance, it brings with it all the benefits of a full-body exercise, as well as an appreciation of the music and history of a rich piece of Brazilian culture.

3. Where have I seen it before?

Capoeira can be seen in various places, both in fiction and real life. Capoeira movements were incorporated into Breakdancing during its renaissance, such as the head spin, acrobatics and leg whirls and in UFC by Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos. It has been captured in spirit in the Tekken series and Overwatch, with Eddie Gordo, Christie Monteiro and Lucio being practitioners, and seen in film and television as used by Wesley Snipes (as he practises capoeira) and the late Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther in the MCU series.

Hey everyone, we at CCCU Capoeira Society have relied in recent years on word of mouth and sharing our love and joy for Capoeira at the Fresher's Fayre, however this time in the current environment, a more virtual, social approach is needed. Combined with this page and cccu_capoeira_soc on Instagram, we are hoping to generate interest and a strong community, to join our online classes if able, and eventually return to face to face practice in the art of Capoeira, a fulfilling and enjoyable combat dance.
