This morning we welcomed 402 of you to the glorious Cannock Chase parkrun and we hope you enjoyed yourselves in much more acceptable running temperatures than we've been having of late.

A couple of housekeeping points...

1) We had an incident this morning where one of our first ten finishers has been witnessed lashing out verbally and physically at a runner and pushchair. This is completely unacceptable. We are not a race, your time is not more important than any other participant's and our course is a shared space. Please be respectful, we ask this in every pre-event brief. There's no excuse. If this was you, have a good hard think about yourself.

2) We had a brand new set of tokens this morning (no unscannables - whoop!) but someone has neglected to return tokens 263 and 264 meaning our new set is already depleted. Can the unknown token liberators please return them asap? If not, we will be forced to release the hounds.

3) We have two items of lost property. If you think they are yours, pop us a message telling us what you've lost and we'll endeavour to reunite you.

Have a lovely weekend and remember, be nice to each other.

🚨 Volunteers needed for Saturday! 🚨

We’re a little short on the volunteer roster for this Saturday’s parkrun, and we could really use some helping hands! 🙌

We’re looking for:
🏃‍♂️ 1 Marshal
📱 2 Scanners
🚦 2 Funnel Managers

If you’re currently taking a rest day, nursing an injury, or you’re yet to give volunteering a go, this could be your perfect excuse to step up! You don’t have to run to be part of the fun - volunteering is a brilliant way to stay involved, cheer everyone on and be part of something great. ❤️

So, if you can spare a little time this Saturday, please put your hand up! The runners need you, the finish funnel needs you, and our slightly panicked volunteer coordinator definitely needs you. 😂

Let’s get that roster filled! 🙏

Cannock Chase parkrun #413 15-08-26

A more temperate climate was to be found at this morning's parkrun (some of us even felt a tad chilly at times....what a pleasant feeling after recent weeks!)

380 of you decided that it was perfect running or walking weather though - and joined us for our 413th event. This one, in particular, was made possible by the incredible men and women of the districts' fire service who ensured that Thursday's fires near to Marquis Drive were bought under control quickly and prevented both the cancellation of our run and, more importantly, the further destruction of our wonderful area of natural beauty and home to a diverse cross section of animals insects and plants. They really are the heroes.

17 of you were running your first parkrun ever and we hope that you will all double your tally with us next week! We celebrated a number of milestones and special occasions this week - so a huge thanks for your attention and quiet during my run brief this week - especially as our megaphone had run out of battery. Thanks to those who suggested that I didn't need the megaphone anyway......

This weeks' celebrations were for (we only shouted out those that told us....some of you were presumably just being shy!);

10 - Alex Melvin-Elshaw, Scott Cresswell, Chris Lee, Michelle Neale, Ross Newman, Naomi Sherratt
25 - Toby Powell, William Powell, Simon Crotty, Shaun Henden
50 - Jo Offord, Libby Hill
100 - Jonathan Driver, Helen White
150 - Sharon Mantle, Marie Ward
300 - Edward Frost
500 - Jeremy Smith

Also, Rebekah Tyrell (Our picture star below), who volunteers with us often, ran her last parkrun as a Miss, before her wedding on Thursday. Good Luck for the big day, Rebekah!

We do shout it out in the run brief every week but a quick reminder that whilst we absolutely love dogs at the Chase, and welcome them with open paws, it is strictly one dog per participant and the dog must be on a short hand-held lead at all times during the event. Waist harnesses or free roaming is not allowed, we're afraid. Please do help us ensure that dogs will always be able to join us, by sticking to these rules (This rule applies to all parkruns, not just ours!)

It was, however, an absolutely brilliant morning with PBs a-plenty. Please post your pics, PB's and celebrations below - and we'll see you again next week.

Thanks
Gary (This weeks' RD)
and the whole CC core team

***FIRE UPDATE***

Further to our last post, we have it on good authority that Marquis Drive Visitor Centre (where we hold parkrun) is fully accessible *if coming from Rugeley or Hednesford* (Brindley Road, Brindley Heath Road or Birches Valley)

If coming from Penkridge/Stafford one short section of road remains closed (between the Penkridge Bank Road at the "White House" and the crossroads of Marquis Drive and Brindley Road (see pic) so you may need to look at an alternative route.

See you in the morning!

**HEADS UP**

Due to the large fire near Marquis Drive last night, roads in the area remain closed at the moment and we don't know how this will affect tomorrow's parkrun.

We'll try to keep this page updated with any info we get, so please keep an eye out. You might also want to consider "Plan B" options for the morning 😞

Two fire crews and a water carrier remain at the scene of a fire on Cannock Chase which started yesterday evening.

Crews worked through the night on the fire, which was first reported in the area of Marquis Drive.

At its peak, a total of eight fire crews attended the fire which spread across an area approximately 80m by 80m.

We are continuing to be supported by colleagues Staffordshire Police and the local authority Staffordshire County Council who is providing resources at the scene.

A number of roads remain closed in the area and drivers are urged to follow diversion routes in place.

You see this picture? It's the one remaining marshal vest that we still need to fill to be able to go ahead safely tomorrow. Does it look like your size? Then it's yours! Please let us know below if you can help - basically, you'll be saving the day!

Also....our roster is never full! We'll always find a role for you if you fancy volunteering on this or any other Saturday. We'd love to have you and we don't bite. (Well, a couple of the core team do but we'll make sure you're never left alone with them!)

**All sorted now everyone Thank you!!**

Morning everybody!

It’s pinch, punch, first Parkrun of a new month on Saturday and we need to fill a couple of roles to make sure we can go ahead 💪🏻

Currently we are looking for:

2 x finish tokens
1 x marshals

Shout up if you’re able to help out - it should be a *slightly* cooler one this week! Don’t worry if you’ve not volunteered with us before - there’ll be full training and probably some cake too!
