CCHC is the premier club in Cambridge and the surrounding area. We deliver national league standard to participation level.

We have 7 mens teams, 6 womens & the biggest junior section in the East of England. All supported by a vibrant social scene! Supported by BDB Pitmans we take great pride in the coaching across our club, ensuring premier standard facilities are complimented by elite coaches. Our Ladies 1s XI are coached by Great Britain and England legend, Rio Olympic Champion, Helen Richardson-Walsh MBE. Our men are coached by multiple time domestic champion, former England international and EHL veteran Gareth Andrew. Our junior section is lead by Grant Gilmour, an experienced national league player with a passion for advancing talent across the club. All senior teams have a number of former national league or international players / coaches in the squad to ensure players develop and are in the right team. All teams benefit from high quality coaching. We are very proud of the umpires we have helped develop and welcome a number to the club with no playing ties who simply wish to advance their game with the whistle. In club we have some umpire coaches available and enjoy a great relationship with both the county and regional umpire association to help promote talent. In the summer we deliver more relaxed social hockey where all standards are welcome. We ask that nobody hits the ball and that beginners are given the space to develop and enjoy their game. Flyerz, or Para hockey, is vital to the club and we deliver sessions regularly to ensure our game is open to all. Alongside this we launched Walking Hockey in the 2020/21 season to make hockey accessible to those with mobility issues or who simply want to enjoy the game at a more leisurely pace. Finally the Friday Freestylerz deliver hockey for adults in the morning after school drop off time, open to all this is another great way to enter the game at a more relaxed pace.

There were some spectacular moments not least of which were Cosi faceplanting into the astro (twice 🤪) and Becky demonstrating some 70's disco moves as part of her warm-up.

Final score: Cambridge City 1 - 0 Ely City

As we prepare for the new season, tomorrow is Club Day at Cambridge City Hockey Club. We have a full day of hockey planned with most of the club's teams playing throughout the day.
At 14:15 there will be a brief presentation in the clubhouse by Club Chair, Simon Webb, when he will outline the Club Vision for the next few years.
If you're looking for a hockey club, perhaps returning to the game after a break, or maybe thinking of giving it a try, come along and see what we're all about 🏑
We start at 10:00 and can be found on pitches 1 and 2 at The University Sports Ground on Wilberforce Road, Cambridge CB3 0EQ.

🚨Director of Hockey🚨
CCHC is delighted to announce the appointment of Dave Madden as Director of Hockey.

Dave brings extensive experience as a coach and player at a very high level of hockey. He has a strong understanding of the ecosystems our teams, coaches and players operate within so will add a lot of value to the club.

Dave's appointment has been very welcomed by captains and coaches. He will be able to support those in these roles in having the best chance of success. We have agreed a few high priority tasks that Dave is addressing now. He will be present at Club Day and most weekends will be found at Wilberforce Road so do grab him for a chat if you can!

Club Chair, Simon Webb: "Dave lives and breathes hockey. He is synonymous with Cambridge hockey and this is a brilliant appointment for the club. The love and affection the players who have worked with Dave shows the impact he has. He is able to challenge people in a robust, fair way that will get the best out of them. His commitment to the club is plain to see. Years spent shuttling across the East of England to ensure he was on hand to help proves that. I am absolutely delighted he has taken on this role and look forward to him working with the club in the coming season!"

Dave Madden: "I'm very excited for the new challenge that the Director of Hockey role brings, and I'm really looking forward to working with the captains and coaches. I hope that, together, we can enable all of our teams to make progress towards being the very best that they can be, whilst ensuring that everyone at CCHC feels valued, has opportunities to develop, and enjoys being part of a great club."

She's only gone and done it!! The legend that is Sally Tippen wins GOLD with the England W070's team at the Masters Hockey World Cup 2026. Congratulations to Sally and the whole squad. What a result!

Four CCHCers on duty at the FIH World Cup for the next two weeks! Channel 4 Sport are broadcasting all England, Wales and Scotland games on their YouTube channel so it is a great chance to watch some top hockey and cheer on these absolute legends!

Albs has been a major part of England men’s recent successes, and has been in serious contention for World Player of the Year. Albs joined us as a teenager and his talent was clear for all to see. What set him apart though was that he only used those insane skills and incredible athleticism to get out of trouble, not into it! His maturity earned him Vice Captain status in the M1s and he has since returned to support the club as a coach and remains a hugely popular member of the club to this day. If you get a chance listen to his numerous guest appearances on the Y1 podcast, Let’s Stick Together.

Tess Howard MBE was forged with the killer instincts of Jo Ellis, the cerebral approach of coach Ross Hayward, the fleet dancefloor feet of Heidi Baber, the dry wit of Stan and the commitment to win every ball of Monkey. Tess has proven to be a big game changer on and off the pitch, scoring important goals to win National and international titles, as well as forcing significant change in sports clothing policy and regulations.

Katie Curtis has only been on the international scene for a short while but is already in contention for being the best in the world in her position! Reading the game brilliantly she also has one of the best wobbles in world hockey and the quickest hands you’ll ever see!

Rhodri Furlong, The Big Rhod, has been a mainstay of the Welsh team for years. He is solid, reliable and absurdly hard working. He scored some blinders for us as we consolidated our place in the national league, and has continued that fine form while representing the Dragon. One of the chest guys in hockey and an absolute delight to watch play!

🚨New Coach Confirmed🚨
CCHC is delighted to confirm that Charles Norbury, otherwise known as Norbs, has progressed from the Men’s Club Coach position last season to taking on the Womens 3rd XI for the 2026/27 season!

Having finished his studies at Cambridge University Norbs joined us as a player four seasons ago and has been a mainstay at the top end of the men’s club ever since. Having coached in his native Australia, and at the Uni, Norbs took on the responsibility of coaching the men’s club session last season. There he added significant value, aiding players who were looking to progress from participation to performance standard. With his first hand experience of elite hockey he was brilliantly placed to help mold players for the challenges that performance hockey presents.

Hannah Vernon-Browne, Women’s Club Captain: “The 3s are very excited to welcome Norbs as the new coach for this upcoming season. He fits into the squad well, bringing experience that spans all levels of hockey and an understanding of the mindset required to win. After a very successful season last year, I am excited to see how Norbs adapts to the team and continues their impressive performance!”

Charles Norbury, “I’m hoping to build on the successes achieved by the team under David Madden over the past ten years. I want to ensure the team remains one of the strongest in the country and hoping to bring some antipodean flair to the playing style.”

The Women’s 3rd XI will compete again in East Prem this season, the highest level any 3rd XI in the country plays at. If you are interested in playing East Prem or higher please contact us via DM or our website.

THANK YOU DAVE!

After many years, Dave Madden, also known as Baz, has stepped down from his coaching duties.

For the past few seasons Dave held a dual role where he coached both the 2nd and 3rd XI. He would coordinate his Saturdays so he would be pitch side for both teams where ever physically possible, often at the detriment of his own playing time.

The 25/26 season saw Dave focus on the 3rd XI and the results were startling; finishing the season as the highest ranked 3rd XI in the country, finishing third in East Prem. An incredible achievement and a fitting one to bow out on.

Club Chair, Simon Webb: “Dave has been a brilliant servant to the club and one of the most consistent and excellent coaches I’ve seen. His dedication to the players, squad and club has been unrivalled. The love and regard he is held in by the players is extreme. He has made a positive, lasting impact on so many players. The affection and warmth with which players speak of Dave is so genuine. It’s been a pleasure to hear players speak of the time they have had with Dave. They all have grown so much. He is a true hockey man and club man. Thank you Dave!”

Our FLT Avengers assembled and tried hard to not try too hard in the hot summer sun. Wellsy may have got a bit serious about the rules at one point, but otherwise it was mission accomplished!

Mullers had a habit of passing the ball to the opposition, presumably so he could impress everyone with his ability to win it back immediately!

Dickers developed a super secret bird signal to prompt the use of drag flicks, Barnaby is probably still running really fast somewhere now, Rhi somehow survived the heat in her keeper kit all day and our capes only obstructed our vision most of the time!

By accident we made the big cup competition in the afternoon, but were delighted that the other teams had a very relaxed attitude too!

Massive credit to Moulton for their Alice in Wonderland outfits, and “Cruella” from St Ives for their dedication to the Dalmatian theme. Big thanks to St Ives. This was a fantastic event and we hope it’s on again next year!

🥚 🥄 SCHOOL SPORTS DAY!!! 🎽 🏃🏾‍♀️
The fantastic School Sports Day social returns for a second year!

This is a prime opportunity to witness HVB’s legendary backward running skills, to marvel at Heather’s strategic approach to three-legged races and to debate whether hairy or smooth legs are optimal for a wheelbarrow race!

The day kicks off at 13:00 with a BBQ and general chin wag. We then move onto the events, which will see us divided into houses.

All are welcome, whether you are an existing member of the club, new member or just fancy a bit of fun! Partners are also very welcome of course! U18 players from the senior section are also very welcome!

Come along, get involved and bask in the glory of School Sports Day!

We are delighted to welcome back for his 15th year of S&C coaching with CCHC Performance Squads!

Our coaches cannot wait to get going with the players and we have the return of Club Day, orchestrated by the wonderful Wellsy!

There will be friendlies in the build up to the season, keep an eye on Teamo for more info. Most will be Saturdays but some will be weekday evenings.

Men’s Performance Preseason starts off with a relaxed back-to-hockey session on Sunday 16 August, then moves to Tuesdays and Thursdays after that.

We will ramp up toward the start of the season as we get ready for what promises to be a fun, fantastic and fierce 26/27!
