An important announcement from the Rainbow Rocket Team -
We’re deeply saddened to announce that Rainbow Rocket Central will be closing its doors on Sunday 15th November 2026 at 7pm.
Some of you may be aware that East West Rail are planning on building a new Cambridge station entrance on Clifton Road Industrial Estate. To facilitate these works, Rainbow Rocket Central will be demolished as part of the redevelopment programme. The works are due to start in 2030, however Rainbow Rocket Central needs significant investment before this time. Coupled with increasing overheads like rent, it’s not viable for us to keep the centre open.
While this is understandably disappointing news, we want to reassure everyone that we are actively exploring alternative premises in the local area. Although we cannot make any commitments at this stage, finding a new location nearby remains a priority, and we will keep you updated as our plans develop.
Thank you to every person who has climbed with us, supported us, and played a part in shaping Rainbow Rocket into what it is today. While many climbing walls proudly speak about their communities, we can honestly say we think ours is one of the best! We’re incredibly grateful to the people who have shared this space with us. We hope you will continue to join us on the mats at Rainbow Rocket North for the next chapter.
We're open as normal until 15th November, and it would mean a great deal to see familiar faces for a few final climbs before then and on our last day of operation.
