Cambridge Kuro Iwa Ryu Jujitsu

Cambridge Kuro Iwa Ryu Jujitsu A practical martial art for self defence that uses an aggressors strength against them Your first lesson is completely free. Don't have nunchaku?

Jujitsu is a practical martial art for self defense, and involves joint locks, throws, strikes, grappling, and pressure point techniques, all designed to use technique instead of brute strength. Originally used by the Samurai of Japan for battle, jujitsu has developed over hundreds of years to be a practical martial art for anyone of any shape, size or age. Just come along to a training session wi

th some loose fitting clothes (covering knees and elbows ideally) and lots of enthusiasm. Training times:
Monday 6:30-8pm
Saturday 4-6pm

Cost:
£8 per lesson

Instructors:
The club is taught by two 3rd Dan Black Belt instructors, Sensei Daria Tsybaeva and Sensei Peter Adamson. For any information please contact:

[email protected]

or call:

07792097914

Weapons:
As a student becomes more experienced they will begin to practice with a range of traditional Japanese weapons; Katana (Samurai sword), Bo staff (6ft), Jo staff (4ft), Sai, Tonfa batons, Nunchaku, Kama, and Naginata, eventually including hojujitsu (rope techniques). Training in these weapons includes traditional katas and practical applications. While traditional, they can be adapted for modern life, e.g. Use your handbag!

It is with a lot of sadness that we announce the closure of the Kuro Iwa Ryu Cambridge jujitsu club. It has been a privilege to teach jujitsu for so many years and we have enjoyed every moment of it. We'd like to thank everyone who has trained with us over the years

The reason we are closing is because we (the senseis) are leaving the country to travel the world for a year. If you'd like to know more about what we're doing, you can follow us on IG and YouTube and watch our first video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlhbMMBfd6A When we say "we're giving up everything" that also includes our club.

We are Peter, Daria, Finlay, and Isobel Adamson. We're quitting our jobs, selling our house, and going off on a year-long adventure to see the world. Follow ...

STUDENT CHALLENGE!

Although they're talking about karate, almost every technique here is also found in jujitsu. How many of these techniques can you identify and name? Put your attempt in the comments.

I'll add my list to the comments later.

Thanks to everyone who came along and said hello to us at the Chesterton Festival yesterday. We had a great afternoon in the sun speaking to you all about jujitsu, and practicing on the grass behind our table.

I expect we'll see many of you at our next class on Monday!

We'll be there all day enjoying the weather and promoting the club. Come say hi!

This is a great demonstration and (depending on the environment) a great technique to use against an unarmed opponent. But in our school we would never choose to go to the ground in a knife fight. For us, this has far too much risk.

The first defence we teach students from this attack starts the same as this video. But once in the position to do this throw, we jab at the attacker with their own knife, remove our head from the grip by turning our hips to the left, and run (or control and destroy if running isn't an option).

I expect many of our students will recognise this technique from our self defence seminar last August, or from our general groundwork defence practice in class.

I drew this comic to accompany my mini-technique tutorial here: https://youtube.com/shorts/Ph_jWRRoKdk
