🏏CROFTY MATCH REPORT🏏

Another weekend of cricket brought another mixed bag for the Crofty sides, with the 1st XI battling hard against Truro, while the 2nd XI continued their incredible run of form with another convincing victory.

The 1st XI welcomed Truro to Crofty, with the visitors winning the toss and putting Crofty in to field. The boys made a decent start, with Andrew picking up a wicket before Gary followed soon after. Things were looking promising, but once Truro got settled into their innings, it became a long afternoon in the field for the Crofty lads.

The visitors eventually put on 281, but our highlight was Ian “Yanny” Williams, who decided to ditch the keeping gloves and have a bowl, and promptly produced a brilliant 5/59!!

Crofty got off to a strong start with the bat with Liam leading the way with a solid 47, Andrew added 32, before Gary marked his first game back this season with an excellent 61.

Unfortunately despite some strong contributions, Crofty couldn’t quite chase down the total and finished 90 runs short.

Meanwhile, the 2nds XI travelled to Praze knowing another strong performance would keep their impressive league campaign moving in the right direction.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the boys once again produced an excellent display with both the ball and in the field, and dismissed Praze for 132.

With the bat, Carl Band led the way with an excellent unbeaten 45, supported by Ben Sinkins (39) and Alan Rule (26). Losing just one wicket, the boys comfortably knocked off the target in 20 overs to secure another 20 points.

Tomorrow, the 1st XI head to St Erme, and if you can’t make it to support them, the game will be live on YouTube!

The 2nds meanwhile welcome Camborne for a top-of-the-table clash, it’s set to be a big one!!

Good luck lads 💚

🏏 Crofty Match Report 🏏

What a weekend for Crofty! Two teams, two wins, and a massive 40 points. Throw in a bus trip, a surprise retirement comeback and a couple of dominant performances, and you’ve got yourself a pretty successful Saturday!

The 1st XI travelled to Mullion together on the Crofty bus, with the usual last-minute team sheet change thrown in for good measure. With just 5 minutes to get ready, the great Lyndsay Grant was dramatically pulled out of retirement and thrown straight back into action.

After loosing the toss on a green wicket, Crofty were delighted to be asked to bowl first. The boys came flying out with some seriously tight bowling and excellent fielding, putting Mullion under pressure from the start. The wickets came in thick and fast, with Jason Williams producing and outstanding spell to claim his five-wicket hall for the club, finishing with figures 5/28. Andrew Martin picked up two wickets, while Liam Mankee and Luke Fenton also chipped in to see Mullion all out for 82.

With the bat, Crofty started really well, and after loosing a couple of wickets, the boys kept the momentum going and knocked off the total in just 15 overs, leaving plenty of time for the pub tour celebrations on the way home.

Back at home, the 2nds XI welcomed Porthleven and, after winning the toss, elected to bowl.

The bowling attack was again on form, keeping things tight throughout the innings. Josh Crocker lead the way with an excellent 4/25, while Ben Sinkins, Alan Rule and Nicki Richards all in the wickets too. There was also an outstanding display on the field from Ben Scarrett, who picked up two catches and a run out!

Porthleven made 117 after 28 overs, and our opening pair, Alan (35) and Nicki (76) put together a great partnership saw the seconds cruise to victory in 18 overs with no loss of wicket.

🏅MOTM: Josh Crocker

Both sides are looking to carry the mighty momentum into this weekend, with the 1st XI welcoming Truro and the 2nds travelling down the road to Praze.

🌑 TONIGHT’S ECLIPSE 🌑

If you see a Crofty player wearing eclipse glasses tonight, don’t worry.

They’ve finally found something that helps them see the ball 🕶️🏏

We’re expecting fielding standards to improve dramatically.

🏏 Crofty Match Report 🏏

It was smiles all round for Crofty last weekend, with both the 1st XI and 2nd XI recording excellent victories to make it a double-win weekend for the club!

The 1st XI made the short trip to Redruth and, after losing the toss, were asked to field first.

Crofty couldn’t have asked for a better start. Some excellent bowling backed up by sharp fielding had Redruth reeling at 46-4, putting the lads firmly in the driving seat. Although Redruth’s middle order fought back thanks to a superb century, Crofty didn’t let the game run away from them. Special mention to skipper Liam “Lamby” Mankee, his 9 overs, 4 maidens, for 10 runs and 1 wicket kept the pressure firmly on throughout. If runs were precious, Lamby wasn’t certainly giving them away!

See 213 to win, Crofty got off to a great start, Lamby had a great 51 runs, while Andrew Martin added a lovely 46, giving us a solid platform for the chase. A few wickets brought Redruth back and there were one or two nervous glances, but Jason Williams kept his cool with a great 44*, guiding Crofty over the line to secure much needed points.

Back at Crofty, the 2nd XI were looking to bounce back against Rosudgeon and did exactly that with another impressive all-round team performance.

Rosudgeon made a steady start after batting first, but Crofty’s bowlers gradually tightened the screws. Wickets were shared right through the attack, with Josh Crocker leading the way with 3 wickets, while Alan Rule, Nicki Richards, and Ben Sinkins all picked up two apiece. The disciplined bowling effort restricted Rosudgeon to 118.

The chase got off to exactly the start Crofty wanted, with Carl Band (34) and Nicki Richards (21) laying the foundations. Contributions from Ben Sinkins (19) and Alan Rule (30) ensured there were no late scares as the boys knocked off the target with 15 overs to spare.

🏅MOTM: Ben Sinkins - Sponsored by Birdies Bistro

A fantastic weekend for the club, with two wins from two, plenty of standout individual performances and another reminder of the strength across both sides. The lads will be hoping to carry that momentum into this weekend, with the 1st XI traveling to Mullion and the 2nds are back home to Porthleven.

Here’s to another weekend of runs, wickets, and hopefully another double celebration at the bar afterwards! 💚
