The reason why you’re always dieting, is because you’re always dieting!!
Fat loss phases are most effective, with the least amount of downsides when ran for between 6 to 12 weeks.
Other than losing no fat, there are minimal negative side effects of running a very short fat loss diet.
But as it is impossible (without thousands of pounds of laboratory equipment) to differentiate fat loss from water weight, a low end minimum for weight loss duration should be three weeks.
On the other end of the scale, between 12-16 weeks of dieting is considered as optimal.
After this period, the chances of maintaining the required principles diminish astronomically, resulting in the likelihood of rebound weight gain to be almost guaranteed.
This is known as CHRONIC DIETING.
Put simply, it is much better to lose 14lb (1 stone) during a successful 12 week fat loss phase, than it is to aim for 24lb across 20 weeks, burn out, and regain 10 lb.
Basically, working longer and harder for what will feel like a disappointing failure. Think, attending Weight Watchers/Slimming World for 5 years!!!!
When planning upper and lower limits, fat loss duration should likely be done for no less than 3 weeks and no more than 16 weeks at a time, with 6-12 weeks being the most ideal option.
