Fitness isn't just done in the gym, everywhere has an opportunity to exercise! This time it was snorkelling, swimming, and wrestling great white sharks (ok maybe I made up the bit about the sharks but it was still fun lol)

Here's the third and final instalment of my Rimini adventure, enjoy.

Shared a taxi back to the hotel as I didn't fancy being a sardine again. Only time for a quick shower then had to meet for dinner. I made the schoolboy error of laying down and thinking ill just have 5 minutes, over an hour later, still there. Power nap did me good though as I knew we'd be out till late. Had a lovely meal, eventually as we didn't sit down to eat till about 10! Plenty of beer time though. After dinner headed back to a "British pub" next to the hotel for a couple more beers, then the jaeger bombs started! Stayed for one more then headed to the room as I knew it would be game over for Saturday otherwise, aren't I a clever boy then.

Saturday 11th May.
Day 2.
Woke up a bit later this morning with a lovely hangover, ill need to sweat this out today! Dragged myself out of bed, got ready and headed out for a wander as its a beautiful sunny day in Italia. Sat here in the sunshine waiting for everyone, enjoying a fresh cup of coffee. Man I need this today, shady head, very shady!
Met up with "the gang" and headed off to Rimini wellness for day 2 of noise and sweat!! Eventually after a couple of mix ups, climbed aboard real Ryder for round 2, and attempted to sweat this hangover away, didn't work lol. It's worth mentioning at this point that yesterday was a 45min class with Fabio and I managed to burn 640 calories and got up to 88% of max hr, today was a 30min class with Juliano and I managed 312 calories and got up to 92% of max. I felt it a lot more today, but that was partly the class and partly the copious amounts of alcohol consumed last night! Never again!! Till next time anyway haha. Spent the rest of the day spending money on cool t-shirts and chilling in the sun while it lasted. Going to try out a posture class on the real Ryder at 5pm so we'll see what that's like.
So the postural class was very similar to the earlier one but with a few extra moves and a higher intensity. It was the same teacher(Juliano) who was very good, great core strength. He made it very tough but a lot of fun too, I managed to get up to 94% o max this time and burned just over 500 calories, which I needed to after the amount of delicious Italian pizza I've munched this weekend!! Back at the hotel now, sat on my balcony overlooking the Adriatic Sea listening to some mellow tunes, chillin before we head out for our last meal here.
It's been a great trip, I've met some great people, had fun on the real Ryder, also sweated my ass off! I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to come out here and experience my first but certainly not last fitness expo. It's so nice to be around so many positive people who love fitness/training/being healthy. It's really motivational and has inspired me to be better than I am, to train harder, to be more determined to have the courage and discipline to achieve my goals both with my physique and in business. Here's a favourite quote from the late, great Bruce Lee "If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits! There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there. You must go beyond them."

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more events, articles and advice coming soon.
Yours in fitness,
Leon

Rimini Wellness blog part 2.

The plane and bus journey went well, although so cramped on Ryan air even for a wee fella like me lol. Didn't get any sleep on the way here so was hanging by the time we arrived.
First impressions of Rimini aren't great, bit of a dead town in need of some serious modernisation and investment. I certainly wouldn't come here on holiday, it reminds me a bit of fuengirola on the costa del sol in southern Spain without the ex pats!
Checked in to the hotel and all I can say is, false advertising on steroids! Looks hardly anything like the pictures on the website, no water in the pool the rooms are slightly less than modern, more like stuck in a time warp from the 1960's and not in a cool retro way either! So unpack, shower, feel slightly human again, meet in the lobby, no time for a sleep yet. A sardine can bus ride later and here we are at "Rimini wellness" you can tell its a fitness convention due to all the luminous coloured Lycra and combat trousers, fit bodies and a sprinkling of bodybuilders and promo girls in the shortest hot pants in existence!
We meet Gigi from real Ryder get our tickets and head in to a cacophony of noise from an abundance of classes with pumping house music with a bit of hip hop here and there and various presenters dressed again in Lycra (man these Italians love their Lycra lol) we head down to the real Ryder stand past a huge techno gym spin class with about 100 bikes, 2 pools with aqua spin and aqua pole dancing or something going on, a "trek mills" stand with a load of people just walking on very basic looking treadmills which are supposed to mimic you hiking up a mountain...... Yeah ok then, yawn! And then all of sudden there they are, the bike that will revolutionise spinning.... Ladies and gentlemen I give you, the "Real Ryder"!!!
Even though I'm exhausted I can't wait to get on and have a play. Myself and Kieren are first to get on. Unstable is my first thought, after some adjustments to the seat and handles I'm ready to go. You'd think the first thing I'd do in pedal but no the kid in me first sees how far it will lean then how fast I can shake it side to side :oP lol more people join us and we get ready for the first experience of the bike in action. The creator gives a short speech which is barely audible due to the amount of classes going on at the same time in close proximity, then he introduces the Italian presenter who is probably the most ripped, lean man I have ever seen, with thick black hair, head to toe in Lycra (standard!) and is called "Fabio"! Well of course he is isn't he haha. He again is barely audible above the random noise apart from the occasional "ehhhhhhhhhhh" said in a stereotypical flair and with a cheesey grin. I make sound a bit like a cartoon character but he's a good presenter and a top cyclist! We do a 30min class, I manage to get up to 88% of max hr, I know this as I've brought along my myzone strap and watch. It doesn't feel like I'm working that hard though as I'm distracted by the movement of the bike, in a good way. I am sweating my arse off though as its very humid in the open air. So what do I think? It's really good, I like the variety of movement. It makes spinning more fun and I think when you add interactive video it would really come into its own.
Stay tuned for part 3!!!

Rimini Wellness, May 2013.

Day 1, Friday 10th.

An early start today, 2:45am to be exact, urghhh! In the car and on the road by 3:15 to get to stansted airport for the meet at 5am. A pretty uneventful journey apart from ridiculously long road works on the M25 and I'm at the mid stay car park by 4:30am. I planned on leaving my jacket in the car as travelling light was the only option (especially when flying on horrible budget airlines that charge you the equivalent of a small mortgage for extra baggage! Ok that's a slight exaggeration but you all know what I'm talking about!) but it's bloody freezing so the jackets coming with!!
I find my way to the meeting point and scope the area looking for the people I'm supposed to meet, people that I have no idea what they look like by the way. I see a group of 3 standing together, I wonder is that my group? Do I go over and say hello only to find out they are not and end up embarrassingly shuffling away looking more lost than Andy Carrol in the 6 yard box (a little footie joke for those that know lol) I decide to go order a coffee and stand nearby looking for a clue, I see someone else join the group, I move closer. Then there's the clue I've been looking for, boarding passes! I take the plunge and head over to introduce myself.
I first meet Ian from EQ fitness, who's name I completely forget till later in the trip, well it was 5am and I'd only had 4hrs sleep. I then meet Mike, a hench, tough looking dude from Scotland that looks like he eats steel bars for breakfast! He shall be my friend I think!!! I later find out that he's an ex bodybuilding Muay Thai fighter (true to form) but also a top bloke and a real character, Next is Dan, another top bloke and a real nice guy who I get on well with immediately, the start of a theme as you will read. He owns a few gyms based in schools around Surrey, including one right round the corner from me (small world eh!). Then I meet Kieren (I hope that's how you spell her name otherwise I'm in trouble lol) another employee of EQ fitness who also is a mentor and runs her own dance school in Birmingham, she's also cute lol and we hit it off as well. All good so far!
Next to join us is Nick from EQ fitness who organised the trip and looks nothing like the mental image I had of him after speaking to him on the phone, which was of a sweet little old man, kind of like your favourite grandad haha. Turns out he's built like a rugby player and ex doorman! How wrong can you be?! Never judge people, never judge!
Next to rock up is Kate (owner of "Fit England" in Peterborough) another friendly person and really bubbly even at silly o'clock in the morning! With her is Clair, one of her personal trainers and class instructors who also lovely and by the way lol.
Last to join "The Gang" (as I shall now refer to them) at this point is Ben, or as I will call him Man Mountain! I thought Mike and Nick were big lads but bloody hell man! With him is his girlfriend Karen who seems like a nice girl and as friendly as everyone else. She's come along for the sunshine and wine, lets hope theres plenty of both for all of us! The last person to join "the gang" is Sarah, what a handshake she's got on her almost crushed my hand! She will also be my friend haha. No ones gonna mess with this lot that's for damn sure! Stay tuned for part 2. Pics to follow soon!

Just arrived home after an amazing weekend at Rimini wellness. Watch out over the next fee days for instalments of my blog on what went down In Italy. :o)

29/04/2013

So went up to Crewe today and had my speed lactate test done at the university (a big thank you to Craig and his 2nd year students) it was basically a cycling ramp test to find out my optimal wattage output and heart rate training zones to improve my aerobic fitness/endurance. The results should come through soon so I will publicly display them, good or bad. But by initial accounts I'm apparently as fit as a 25yr old even though I'm no longer 25! How much no longer stays with me by the way lol. Not bad considering I've barely been able to do any exercise for 2 months through injury. Just goes to show if you're focused and stay positive in life you can achieve anything. Even if its a small victory like this!

11/04/2013

So had my first weights workout on Monday in 6weeks and oh my god was I sore the last couple days! Some of the worst doms I've ever experienced! Just goes to show that the saying "use it or lose it" is even more true when relating to muscle strength and condition! Did I mention I was sore?? Lol

03/04/2013

Hi everyone, so as some of you know I was injured in a car crash and have been out of action for some time, I'm still a few weeks away from training again and am currently doing lots of rehab. I will be posting pics and status updates soon so keep you eyes peeled! Yours in fitness, Leon
