👋 Welcome back to all our wonderful swimmers, and a huge, warm welcome to our brand-new families!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that AquaKidz Lightwater and Fins Swimming Club have merged! 🏊‍♂️✨ We are so excited to welcome all the AquaKidz swimmers and parents into the Fins community! 🎉

Lessons start back today, 1st September, at Farnborough Hill and The Ferns and on Monday 7th September at Lightwater. 🌊🗓️

We cannot wait to see both our returning and new faces in the pool this week. Let's dive into a fantastic term together! 💙🐋

📢 When Is a Swimmer Ready to Stop Swimming Lessons? 🏊‍♀️🤔

We often get asked by parents, "My child can swim a length, do they still need lessons?"

At Fins Swimming Club, we believe swimming lessons aren't just about learning strokes – they're about developing water competence, confidence and the skills needed to stay safe in a variety of situations.

A swimmer who can complete 25 metres in a warm swimming pool may still struggle if they unexpectedly fall into cold water, are wearing clothes, or need to tread water and stay calm while waiting for help. That's why the later stages of swimming lessons are so important.

As a minimum, Swim England recommends children continue lessons until they have completed Stage 7, where they have developed a broad range of swimming, survival and water safety skills.

At Fins, many swimmers choose to continue beyond Stage 7 into:
🏅 Stage 8, 9 & 10
🚨 Rookie Lifesaving
🧜 Mermaid Swimming
🏊 Distance Swimming Challenges
💦 Fitness and aquatic skill development

Learning to swim is a life skill, but becoming truly water competent takes time, practice and experience.

So before deciding it's time to stop lessons, ask yourself:

✅ Can they swim confidently in deep water?
✅ Can they tread water and float if they become tired?
✅ Do they understand water safety and self-rescue skills?
✅ Would they cope if they unexpectedly entered open water?

💙💍 Congratulations Luke & Jade! 💍💙

Yesterday was a very special day for two of our wonderful Fins teachers... Luke and Jade got engaged! 🥳💙

For those of us who have been around Fins for a while, this has been such a lovely journey to watch. They first met through Fins many years ago, and we still remember when Jade was doing work experience in the office, somehow Luke always seemed to find an excuse to pop in... usually with a sandwich for Jade! 🥪❤️

From those sweet beginnings, we've had the privilege of watching their friendship grow into an amazing relationship, and now an engagement. We couldn't be happier for them both.

Luke and Jade are such valued members of our Fins family, and we're so excited to celebrate this next chapter with them.

🌊 Another Fantastic Week at Fins! 💙

We'd like to say a huge thank you to every swimmer who joined us this week on our first week of our summer crash courses. It has been wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, determination and progress in the pool. Whether swimmers were gaining confidence, perfecting a new stroke or achieving a new milestone, every single one should be incredibly proud! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

A special thank you also goes to all of the children who took part in our Swim England Teacher Training Week. You have played an important part in helping train the next generation of swimming teachers. More teaching practice means more confident teachers, and we are so grateful for your patience, encouragement and support throughout the week. 💙

The best part of our week? Receiving beautiful feedback from our swimmers! 🥹 These wonderful handmade cards absolutely made our day and remind us why we love what we do. Thank you for your kindness, your smiles and your enthusiasm throughout the week.

We still have Summer Crash Courses running during the weeks commencing 3rd August and 10th August, so there are still opportunities to boost confidence and make fantastic progress before the new term starts.

🧜‍♀️ Our Mermaid Swimming sessions are also taking place next week! A brilliant opportunity for swimmers to have some fun, learn exciting new skills and enjoy a unique experience in the pool.
