When anxiety takes over, it can feel like your world is shrinking. Your energy, focus and joy get smaller and smaller.

Your body floods with adrenaline and cortisol, and creates real physical symptoms fuelled by negative, unhelpful thoughts.

A helpful way to deal with this is to learn ways to calm your nervous system and prevent thoughts from spiralling any further.

Taking time to fill your emotional cup can reduce stress and anxiety. Engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation can improve mood and overall mental well-being.

So ask yourself today, what do you truly enjoy doing that fills your cup. Find what fits for you and make room for more of it in your life. And when you notice those signs of anxiety creeping in, you can pick an activity that will calm your nervous system and ground you into the present moment by shifting your focus away from fear.

Anxiety has a sneaky way of convincing us that the thoughts it creates are true.

It whispers lies that sound believable:

“You’re not good enough”
“You’re a burden”
“Everyone is judging you”

But anxiety doesn’t speak facts, it speaks fear!

Those thoughts aren’t true reflections of you are. They’re symptoms of an overprotective mind trying to keep you safe from danger that isn’t really there.

You don’t have to believe everything your anxious mind tells you.

When these thoughts appear, try pausing and reminding yourself that this is your anxiety talking and NOT reality!

You are not weak. You are not a burden.

You are simply trying to get through the day with a nervous system that’s been working hard to protect you for too long.

It’s time to write a new narrative for yourself.

You are enough.
And you can do this!

When we don’t have accurate information about anxiety, it’s easy to turn the blame inward. We start thinking we’re weak, broken or that nothing will ever help.

But often it isn’t the anxiety itself keeping us stuck, it’s the beliefs we hold about anxiety. Myths like ‘You should just snap out of it’ or ‘anxiety means you’re weak’ only add shame on top of what you might already be feeling.

The truth is, anxiety is not a character flaw. It’s a natural survival response that sometimes becomes overactive. And when we start learning what anxiety really is (and isn’t), we open the door to healthier ways of coping and healing.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there, so let’s start by busting some myths and looking at the truth.

Ignoring Your Emotions Doesn’t Make Them Disappear, It Makes Them Louder!

We often try to push uncomfortable feelings aside, ‘stress’, ‘sadness’, ‘anger’, ‘fear’, hoping they’ll fade if we just “stay busy” or “get on with it.”

But emotions aren’t obstacles to avoid. They are signals. Messengers. And when we silence them, they don’t vanish, they simply find new ways to be heard.

😮‍💨 In the form of burnout.

😣 In constant overwhelm.

😔 In that underlying sense that something isn’t quite right.

The truth is, unacknowledged emotions tend to show up in the body in tension, fatigue, anxiety or even illness.

✨ Feeling your emotions doesn’t make you weak, it makes you aware. And awareness is the first step to healing and growth.

If you’ve been bottling things up, maybe it’s time to gently ask:

What am I really feeling right now? And what is that feeling trying to tell me?

You don’t have to unpack it all at once. Start small. Be curious. Be kind to yourself.

Even though I am now an Anxiety and Stress Management Coach, I know what it’s like to struggle with horrendous anxiety, stressful thoughts and feelings of low self esteem!

Because in 2020, that struggle consumed my life!

In April 2020 my health deteriorated and I ended up having to give up the job I loved.

I know what it’s like to wake up every day and not want to get out of bed in the morning. To be living under a constant dark cloud of helplessness and fear.

I know what it’s like to feel so full of anxiety and emotions fearing that my life as I knew it was over and that I would never be healthy and well again.

I know what it’s like to hide under the covers, crying every day, afraid of what the future holds.

I know first hand how painful living with anxiety and stress can be.

And I also know what it’s like to now be on the other side of it!

To live my life according to my purpose and to have a life where I wake up excited to be able to do what I love and also live a healthy, anxiety free, authentic life is something I will never take for granted.

And the best part is knowing that I was able to turn things around myself and reclaim my confidence and health in a way I could never imagine!

This is the kind of life I want for everyone! That’s why I do the work that I do.

Even though there’s a part of me that wonders if I’m sharing too much, my deeper truth is that I care way too much about helping people overcome their anxiety and low self esteem issues so they can believe in themselves and get back to living the life they deserve.
