Calne Athletic 3–1 Bishops Cannings

First League Victory of the Season

Calne Athletic bounced back in style on Saturday with a well-deserved 3–1 victory over Bishops Cannings, securing our first three points of the league campaign.

After last weekend’s defeat to Avon Valley, the boys were determined to put things right, and from the first whistle Calne were on the front foot, working hard and creating chances.

Harley Closman opened the scoring with a well-taken goal to give Calne a deserved lead. Despite being in control for long periods, a controversial penalty was awarded to Bishops Cannings against the run of play. The decision left the Calne players and supporters scratching their heads, and the resulting spot-kick brought the away side level at 1–1.

Rather than allowing the setback to affect them, Calne continued to work tirelessly and kept pushing for the win.

The pressure finally told late on the game, with Adam Richards who had been pushed forward by the Calne management team after Bishops Cannings were reduced to 10 men, finding the back of the net to restore Calne’s lead before Bailey Rivington added a third to seal a fantastic 3–1 victory.

A special mention goes to Will Baguley, who produced an outstanding Man of the Match performance in midfield. His energy, work rate and composure helped drive the team forward throughout the game.

Overall, it was a fantastic response from the whole squad. Three points on the board, three goals scored and, most importantly, a deserved victory to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment.
