Hi Folks, an update of recent work and pictures from the course.
The last couple of months have been particularly hectic on the course and the progress is continuing despite some very trying conditions.
July proved to be a very dry month, with over 3 weeks with no rain and exceptionally warm with three days hitting 29 degrees. This would prove to be challenging even if we had an automated irrigation system so the fact we kept the vast majority of the green surfaces alive and healthy with just the use of a water bowser was a great achievement. I would like to thank our loyal team of volunteers for stepping in and supporting the club by helping with the hand watering. Without this help we simply wouldn’t have got the greens through this period. There has been a minimal negative impact of the dry weather on certain areas on some greens but we continue to work on these areas.
Recent work on the greens includes; verti-cutting, this is a task we have to be sensible with, mainly the timing, so we monitor the forecast closely. Granular fertiliser was applied a few weeks ago to keep the greens strong and healthy.
We have been keeping on top of machinery maintenance - preventative maintenance mainly, by carrying out regular greasing work.
You may have noticed around the course, on the greens in particular, we have a lot of drain lines which have sunken over time. We are working on a program of top dressing these with sand to raise them to the correct ground level. We are prioritising these, targeting the greens first.
We have started another instalment of our “Round Up” work around the course, areas treated so far are around the Clubhouse, car park and shrub beds at the 1st Tee. Pathways on the course are next. This work keeps the course neat, tidy and free of weeds.
