Time to start to get back into the swing of making decisions. With the high tackle/shoulder charge ruling tree specified what's the call you are going to make. This was a big decision as this was intercepted for a try, but this shouldn't affect our decision!

Preseason awaits us in the U.K. and I have a little bit of info I was reviewing and thought I should share with you all, if you haven't seen it already. World Rugby has released a video (about 2 months ago) on high tackle/shoulder charge assessment. I would love to know your opinion about the process when it comes to applying in your own games! Does this decision making chart help the spectator as well?

A important facet of a referee is having good reaction time. What I mean by that is identifying the infringement quickly and confidently. This is something as the game speeds up is critical to ensure our refereeing can keep up with the game!

The importance of angles is the topic of discussion today. I was told something interesting today that I hope you can use P.B.O.N. an acronym for helping with decision making during a game. The first is P for players, as in where are players in relation to you. This should be something constantly in your head to help determine where you need to be.

As a referee there are always lessons we could learn and ways we can improve. So let's use this as an example, what kind of a running could of been used to make the call of a forward pass. Why did the referee choose this running line and was there anything that could have interfered with him making the call?

Play on! This is an example of a no whistle situation and a opportunity for play to continue. Yellow comes in with great timing to compete over the ball. Unfortunately they get pushed off it and the ball is in the open. We can communicate this and allow for play to continue!

To stand still may be the best option. In this situation the line out breaks down with a pass off the top. As I've already started my rotation I have two choices try to beat the 9 to get out of his passing lane or stand where I am. This allows the ball to be circulated without any interference on my part. As a player it goes against your natural instinct but sometimes may be the best option!
