🏏 Primary Mixed Countdown Cricket Finals 🏏

What a fantastic day of cricket and celebration of school sport!

After so many postponements due to the inclement weather, it was wonderful to finally enjoy a dry day and see the competition take place in great spirits.

Congratulations to all of our teams:
🥇 1st – Hayfield
🥈 2nd – Chinley
🥉 3rd – Duke of Norfolk

And a special mention to Burbage, who narrowly missed out on a podium finish by just four points. Every team showed tremendous determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the event.

A huge congratulations to Hayfield, who will now go on to represent High Peak at the County School Games Finals on 10 July. We wish them every success!

The day was a brilliant reminder that school sport is about so much more than results. We saw pupils encouraging one another, celebrating each other’s successes and demonstrating fantastic team spirit from start to finish.

An enormous shout-out must also go to our Year 8 Sports Leaders from Chapel en le Frith High School. Despite their tender years, they were absolutely outstanding, confidently umpiring and scoring throughout the day. They were empathetic, resourceful, mature and trustworthy, and their professionalism helped make the event such a success. You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.

Finally, our sincere thanks to Chapel en le Frith Cricket Club for hosting us. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support and strong links between our schools and local clubs. These partnerships are invaluable in creating opportunities for young people to experience, enjoy and thrive through sport.

📚🐉 A very exciting delivery has arrived at HPSSP! 🐉📚

Dawn has just taken delivery of copies of Sammy Rambles and the Floating Circus by J Scott – with a copy heading out to every primary school across our partnership ready for next academic year.

This is much more than a book giveaway. It forms part of an exciting new project that will combine literacy, imagination, physical activity and wellbeing, helping children bring stories to life through movement and play.

Within the story, readers are introduced to the exciting game of Dragonball. To bring the story off the page and into schools, we will be offering Dragonball training for teachers and teaching assistants, giving staff the confidence, skills and resources to deliver the game within their own settings.

Following the staff training, pupils will have the opportunity to learn and play Dragonball in school before coming together for a fun, inclusive Dragonball Festival, which will feature as part of our 2025/26 events calendar.

Through this project we hope to:
✨ Inspire a love of reading and storytelling
✨ Connect literacy with physical activity
✨ Develop teamwork, communication and confidence
✨ Encourage active learning and creativity
✨ Create memorable experiences that engage all pupils

We’re really excited to launch this new initiative and can’t wait to see schools across the High Peak embracing Sammy’s adventures both in the classroom and on the playground.

Watch this space for more information coming soon! 📖⚡🐲

Our PE and School Sport Report warns of the danger of pushing PE down the agenda as worrying trends in children’s health and activity levels persist. 📈

New government figures published today show PE continues to account for a smaller share of teaching time in secondary schools than in previous years. Since the London 2012 Olympics, the amount of curriculum time spent doing PE has fallen from 8.6% to 7.3%, despite evidence showing that physical activity supports academic performance through improved brain function, learning and memory. 🧠

Our warning is clear. Reducing time for physical activity in favour of increased academic teaching is a false economy, and is calling for PE time to be better protected to help children thrive both physically and academically. 🏃‍➡️

What a brilliant achievement for everyone who has completed Level 3 Bikeability training! 🌟

It’s inspiring to see riders gaining the confidence and skills needed to cycle safely and independently on more challenging roads and in real traffic conditions. These are life skills that support active travel, improve wellbeing, and open up more opportunities to choose cycling for everyday journeys.

Well done to all the participants and instructors – you’re helping to build a generation of confident, capable cyclists! 🚲💚

Another fantastic Bikeability Level 3 day in Buxton with students from St Thomas More.

Despite the challenges of busy traffic, parked vehicles and limited cycling infrastructure, these young riders showed great enthusiasm and determination.

Teaching the skills and confidence needed to cycle safely in everyday traffic—and helping them enjoy all the benefits that cycling offers—is one of the most rewarding parts of the job. 🚲😊

Big thanks to the school and HPSSP for the continued support.

A fantastic evening celebrating the incredible young people involved in school sport across Glossop at the Glossop Sports Awards 🏆

It was a privilege to speak on behalf of High Peak School and Sport Partnership and recognise not only the sporting achievements of pupils across our primary schools, but also the outstanding contribution of the young leaders supporting events throughout the year.

School sport develops so much more than physical skills — it builds confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership, and employability skills that young people will carry with them into the future.

A huge thank you to the whole team at GSThePlace for the passion and commitment they bring to creating these opportunities for young people across Glossop. The impact of the leadership programme and the opportunities linked to the HPSSP Leadership Academy continue to be incredibly powerful.

Well done to all nominees, winners, young leaders, staff, volunteers and schools involved — you should all be incredibly proud! 👏

Great to spend today with HPSSP discussing exciting ideas for next academic year.

Looking forward to developing cycling and active travel opportunities that are more flexible and tailored to what schools and students really need.

Finished the day with some essential bike maintenance ahead of a half-term trip — because the bikes never maintain themselves! 🚲🔧

What a fantastic afternoon at Cheerfest ‘26 at New Mills Art Theatre!

The atmosphere throughout the event was absolutely brilliant - so much positivity, encouragement and support from everyone involved. It was lovely to see every team cheering each other on, celebrating performances and genuinely wanting everyone to do well. That kind of spirit makes events like this so special and inspiring for the children taking part.

The performances were amazing and full of energy, confidence, teamwork and determination. Every group should feel incredibly proud of what they achieved on stage this afternoon. One of the biggest highlights had to be the teacher dance-off, which created so much excitement and laughter - the children absolutely loved it and the atmosphere in the theatre was electric!

A huge thank you to Hannah, the incredible young leaders and volunteers from Peak Athletics and of course Terry from the theatre — as always, we love Terry! Thank you all for the hard work, enthusiasm, encouragement and care that went into making the afternoon such a welcoming, exciting, and memorable event for everyone involved. ✨

Today we remember a much-loved colleague, teacher and friend whose impact on school sport and PE across our area will never be forgotten.

He was a man of honesty, integrity and unwavering dedication, always giving his very best in everything he did. As one of the forerunners of the partnership and an Area School Sports Coordinator, he worked tirelessly to support primary schools in developing high-quality PE and sporting opportunities for young people. His passion and commitment helped shape experiences for countless pupils and colleagues over the years.

Beyond his professional achievements, he will also be remembered for his keen sense of humour, his warmth, and the way he made people laugh. Dawn will always remember being left in stitches listening to his stories and tales from various caravan holidays — moments of laughter and friendship that will stay with her forever.

He touched so many lives and he will be remembered with enormous fondness, gratitude and respect.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
