The cherry blossom symbolises the fragility and beauty of life. The blooms last for only 14 days before they fall to the ground creating a carpet of petals. Cherry blossoms are a poignant reminder to pay attention so we don’t miss those fleeting special moments that can pass us by unnoticed if we are functioning on autopilot moving from one task to the next.

Nature grounds us and the changes expressed through the seasons gently remind us that when we experience difficulty and hardship that this too will pass, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time. It may alter us but we will bloom anew. Daffodils are one of these stunning spring visuals of hope and renewal with their vibrant yellows expressing joy and optimism after the cold winter months. They seem to just appear as spring arrives but have spent months breaking through the cold winter soil with their tender new stalks often weathering the last of the snowfalls before they finally bloom. Stop the next time you see a host of daffodils. As you take your time to enjoy the display what do you notice? What do you feel? Ever pondered why each daffodil has 6 petals or why their flowers often face slightly downwards? Let’s save that for tomorrow’s post 💚

While we can’t go around hugging people like we did in pre-pandemic days we can still hug trees. Aside from the scientifically proven benefits to our health and well-being there’s the wonderful feeling of deep relaxation and connection you experience when you wrap your arms around a tree trunk, close your eyes and rest your cheek against the bark. Take your time and enjoy the moment. Before you step back remember to look up at the branches canopied above as you breath in the deeply and smile. A simple action to brighten your day and best of all it’s free 💚

Beautiful vivid green Bryum moss is found on all the continents including Antarctica. Spread by on the soles of peoples’ shoes and the feet of animals it’s wonderful example of our connectivity with nature 💚 It’s also a beautiful visual of our belonging to the ‘more than human world’.

The giant Redwoods of Northern California are home to these jaw dropping majestic giants, and one of my favourite places 💚 It’s incredible how a tiny seed is the start to one of the world’s tallest trees, which then goes on to live for hundreds of years, and sometimes upwards of a thousand. When a giant redwood eventually falls, it provides a final gift of open space in the tree canopy allowing for new homes for insects, animals, new plant growth, and biodiversity. From a very humble beginning it matures to bring joy and inspiration to those who get see its natural beauty, and then it’s legacy lives on after it finally falls by helping new life in a variety of ways. Nature is such an incredible teacher 💚 These pics are from a precious road trip with my Mom to show her these incredible trees that nature has gifted us.
