Bury made the trip to the Fife Fastbowl yesterday for the penultimate round of the North & Scotland League!

With Hull withdrawing beforehand due to rider availability, Group A delivered great racing despite being down to just three teams. Sheffield A took the day's victory on 67 points after holding off Bury in a last heat decider. The Comets put in a shift to finish runners up on 65 points, just two points shy of Sheffield, with an understrength Astley & Tyldesley taking third on 47.

The day also delivered the undisputed move of the meeting: Mikey B pulled off a phenomenal pass down the main straight against Sheffield’s Oliver Banyard and Pawel Idziorek that had both the crowd and the pits absolutely wowed.

In heat 15 when Mark Radford suffered a heavy fall following an awful clash with Astley's Frank Ngonji, smashing his helmet in the process. While Mark had to withdraw from the rest of the meeting through injury, we are glad to report he is okay and just a bit sore!

That left a spot to fill in the heat 15 rerun, leading to one of the highlights of the day. Owen Simcock had made the long trip up to Fife with zero intention of racing and every intention of enjoying a b**r trackside. But after a dose of peer pressure, he got changed, jumped onto the track, and bravely brought home a massive 2 points for Bury!

Elsewhere on the day, hosts Fife dominated Group B with 76.5 points to secure promotion right back into Group A for the grand finale.

Thanks to our performance up in Scotland, we have extended our lead at the top of the table, but with Astley just 1.5 points behind us, everything comes down to the final round.
The title fight will be settled at Sheffield’s Cookson Park track on Sunday 20th September.

THE TITLE RACE HEATS UP! ☄️🏆

The business end of the Northern and Scotland League is here and everything is on the line as we head to the Fife Fastbowl this Sunday for the penultimate round.

We are sitting at the top of the table, but with Astley & Tyldesley breathing down our necks just half a point behind, the pressure is well and truly on. But make no mistake, Bury are back at full strength, fully focused, and ready to give it our all!

Group A gets underway first at 1:00 PM, featuring a showdown between Bury, title rivals Astley, Sheffield A, and Hull.

Let's defend that top spot and bring this league title home where it belongs! 🔴⚪

Tonight’s rescheduled Manchester League Finals has unfortunately had to be postponed once again. The fixture will now take place next Wednesday 9th September at Bury.

The funeral service for John Burston will take place at Blackley Crematorium on Friday 11th September at 10:00am.

All who knew John and wish to pay their respects, celebrate his life, and give him the send off he deserves are invited to attend ❤️

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the devastating news that our Head Coach and dear friend, John Burston, passed away peacefully in the early hours of this morning.

To say John was a pillar of Bury Cycle Speedway is an understatement. His loyalty, dedication, and passion for the club and its members over the years were unmatched.

John changed the lives of countless youngsters, mentoring and guiding them both on and off the shale from their first pedal on a bike right through to adulthood. An immensely proud man, nothing brought a bigger smile to John’s face than seeing “his” riders succeed in anything they put their minds to. As a coach, his standards were high because he believed in everyone’s potential and wanted nothing but the very best for his team.

On the track, John was a force to be reckoned with. Known for being lightning fast out of the gate, he feared no one and relished every single battle, fearlessly racing into his 70s against riders sixty years his junior.

John’s cycle speedway career spanned decades, but his true legacy lives on in the riders he taught, the friendships he forged, and the club he helped build.

The thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences of everyone at Bury Cycle Speedway are with John’s family, loved ones, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rest in peace, John. Thank you for everything. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. 🔴⚪☄️
