MANCHESTER LEAGUE ROUND 4 RESULTS

What a night at Gin Pit! Despite heavy rain overnight and into the morning, the track was in excellent condition for Round 4 of the Manchester League on Wednesday evening and the Comets absolutely brought the heat. Credit to A&T who have clearly put a lot of work into getting the track ready for the Steve Harris Memorial this Saturday.

The big story of the night came in the individual standings. Bury’s Reece Pollitt took a spectacular individual victory on the night with 8 points, successfully edging himself one point clear of A&T's Frank White at the very top of the series standings!

In the team battle, the Comets put in a massive shift to stop A&T's recent run of wins, fighting hard to lock in a fantastic 17-17 draw on the night.

TRAINING CANCELLED

We’re deep into the British summer now so it’s only right that training is cancelled due to weather. The rain doesn’t look to be holding off so tonight’s training is off.

See you next week!

MANCHESTER LEAGUE AT A&T

After a successful weekend at Heckmondwike, the Comets head over to Gin Pit for the Manchester League tomorrow night.

Reece Pollitt topped the scorecard in round three, followed by Frank White and Mike Baldock. With a fastest time that night of 42.94, set by Reece, the lads will be aiming to beat that as well as top the scorecard.

Tapes up at 7pm! ☄️💨

It was a good run 😅 we’ll let him off as he’d just got a 7-3 in the last heat to clinch the win by one point though!

COMETS CONQUER HECKMONDWIKE IN ONE-POINT THRILLER! ☄️🏆

The Comets travelled across the Pennines today for Round 3 of the North & Scotland League, navigating a loose Heckmondwike track to secure a spectacular Group A victory by the narrowest of margins.

The loose shale caught plenty of riders out with costly slips, but the team dug incredibly deep to beat closest rivals Astley & Tyldesley by just a single point!

In Heat 1, a returning Danny Taylor made a sublime pass on Emily Burgess, allowing Eryk Motala to follow him through and lock in a vital 5-5 opening draw against A&T. Heat 5 proved trickier, with Danny and Eryk both struggling off the gate and with slides on the loose surface while trying to find a way past a strong Jake Ferguson.

The match truly tilted in our favour thanks to a powerhouse combination: the dominant pairing of Mike Baldock and power reserve Reece Pollitt read the conditions perfectly, blasting their way to three big 7-3 heat wins across the afternoon.

Heat 14 was interesting with a dispute which saw Fife's Kyle Holland initially excluded for obstruction. In the subsequent re-runs, Edinburgh's Jack Brownell was also excluded for excess force, a heavy clash that left Scotland international Harry Langdale on the centre green!

A 5-5 in Heat 18 looked to be costly for Bury, but the Comets refused to panic. Needing big advantages at the death, Bury hammered home two consecutive 7-3 scorings in our remaining heats, snatching a sensational 68-67 victory over A&T right at the flag!

Group A Results

With Edinburgh dropping down after finishing fourth in Group A, Hull will be promoted to the top tier for the next round after winning an incredibly tight Group B battle today with 76 points, just edging out Sheffield A.

Group B Results

Hull — 76
Sheffield A — 74
Heckmondwike — 47
Sheffield B —42
Referee: Ed Morton

The day ended with the traditional Match Race Trophy shootout between Reece Pollitt and Frank White. Unfortunately, a movement on the gate for Reece meant he essentially forfeited the race to Frank before the tapes went up.

This victory extends our lead at the very top of the league, giving us a fantastic cushion heading deeper into the campaign before the next round up at Glasgow.

Following a busy weekend up in Scotland, the Comets are back on the road again this Sunday and heading over to West Yorkshire for Round 3 of the North & Scotland League!

We currently sit at the very top of the Division One table with a 2.5-point cushion, and the lads are ready to keep that momentum rolling on the Heckmondwike shale.

The in-form Reece Pollitt and Mike Baldock are arriving fresh off a stunning weekend in Edinburgh, where they dominated for England and the North & Scotland squads. They'll be looking to carry that blistering pace straight onto the Yorkshire track.

Our top league scorer, Kris Ramsden, is primed to spearhead the attack again alongside the consistent middle-order power of Eryk Motala, Mark Radford and a returning Danny Taylor after recently having a baby.

Heckmondwike is always a tough, tactical place to visit with a big wide track and plenty of passing opportunities. Every team will be hungry for points, but our closest title rivals, a dangerous Fife side featuring Kayden Davidson, and local neighbours Astley & Tyldesley with the likes of Ed Morton and Frank White, will be breathing down our necks. Every single point is going to be crucial.

Tapes up at 1pm. Let's keep our place at the top, Comets! ☄️💨

NORTH SECURE SILVER & NATIONAL TITLE!

Sunday’s Battle of Britain at Edinburgh was an absolute thriller, with three Comets stepping up for the North & Scotland Senior squad!

Reece Pollitt (18), Mike Baldock (14+1), and Kris Ramsden (7+1) all put in a shift on the shale. After a fierce 24 heats, the North tied with a strong Midlands side on 84 points for second place behind winners South East.

It all came down to a tie-breaker run-off. Reece teamed up with A&T's Ed Morton to deliver a masterclass 7-2 heat win over the Midlands, securing second position in dramatic fashion!

And thanks to the North & Scotland winning both the Women's and Junior matches, the region were crowned overall National Champions for the first time in history! 🏆

Senior Battle of Britain Result:
🥇 South East — 99
🥈 North & Scotland — 84 (Won run-off)
🥉 Midlands — 84

Focus now shifts back to league action next Sunday as we head to Heckmondwike! ☄️💨
