A little gap in a busy day to share some thoughts…

The last few weeks at Ippon Karate Academy have just humbled me, excited me, and made me so, so proud.

This weekend, Glyn Dawson won the British Championship on his very last day before heading off to college. You honestly couldn’t script it better. To think he did it at only 70% after a serious car accident—what can I even say?

After Covid, I was at a crossroads with the club. Do we stick to local tournaments—less stress, less travel—or do we push further? If I’m honest, I was leaning towards keeping things local and simple.

But then two brothers came to me and asked if I could help prepare them for all competitions. That simple question gave me the motivation I didn’t know I needed.

Glyn and Idris Dawson —thank you. You rebooted our squad and reminded me what this journey is all about. You should be so proud of yourselves.

Yesterday, Glyn, you showed control, speed, power, and true class on the tatami. A well-deserved win.

People ask if I’m proud of Glyn’s win. Truth is—I’m proud of Glyn and every one of my students, every single day, win, lose or draw.

Good luck, son, on this next chapter. Keep growing, keep pushing, keep being you.
