Women's 1st XI | GMCL Women & Girls Championship 2026 | At Home vs Walshaw CC Women's 1st XI |
Walshaw won the toss at Leigh Lane and elected to bat first. Elton's bowlers kept things tight throughout, with skipper Caitlyn Hunter the standout — her 3/13 off 4 overs including a maiden was a superb spell. Hannah Kent struck in the second pair's allocation, removing No.1 caught and bowled for 9 in the 5th over, before Hunter took over — dismissing the Walshaw captain in the 14th over before accounting for No.8 twice in quick succession in the final stages. The visitors were restricted to 84/4 off 16 overs, leaving them a net score of 264.
Elton's batters responded with real determination and pushed Walshaw all the way.
Lea-Anne Wolfenden led the charge in the opening pair alongside Jenny Brookfield, the two coming through overs 1–4 unscathed, Wolfenden striking a bright 14 off 10 balls as they contributed 18 runs without loss.
Hannah Kent and Tracey Davenport kept the momentum going across overs 5–8, adding 13 runs across their 4 overs.
The third pair proved the turning point in overs 9–12, the pair adding just 5 runs at the cost of three wickets and the associated penalty runs.
Skipper Caitlyn Hunter rocked up in the fourth pair and responded with an unbeaten 22 off 9 balls, while Rachel contributed a gritty 7 off 15 before falling in the 16th over — the pair putting on 29 runs to give the side every chance. It wasn't quite enough, Elton falling just three net runs short of victory.
Result: Lost by 3 Net Runs
3rd XI | GMCL Sunday Division 1 | At Home vs Heyside CC 3rd XI |
The 3rds welcomed Heyside to Leigh Lane on Sunday and having won the toss, elected to put the visitors in for a bat.
Heyside's top order made them work hard for the breakthrough, No.1 getting off to a bright start with 23 before Imran Lodhi (1/27 off 8 overs) had him caught. Numbers 2 and 3 then combined to put on a solid 56-run partnership across the best part of 17 overs, taking the score from 37 to 93 and giving Heyside a platform to build from. No.3 eventually fell for a well-made 39, with Muneeb Tahir (3/61 off 9 overs) doing the damage to account for both him and No.2 in quick succession. No.4 arrived at the crease and proved a handful as he put out a brutal 48 off just 26 balls with nine fours, which dragged Heyside from 106 to 168 before Charlie Curtis finally had him caught. Charlie was magnificent throughout, finishing with a superb 5fa (5/33 off 7 overs, 1 maiden) — ripping through the middle and lower order to claim five of the last six wickets and keep Heyside to 174/9.
The run chase never quite got going, though there were individual efforts to be proud of.
Sam Smith came out of the blocks quickly at the top, striking eight fours in a punchy 34 runs off just 32 balls to get the 3s confident and help bring up 50 inside nine overs. His dismissal at 51/2 proved the turning point of the innings, and it was left to Dave Sewell to provide a composed and fighting 41 off 63 balls, including a six, that kept Elton in the hunt.
Dave carried the innings from 51/2 all the way to 105/7, but once he was removed by Oliver Gloster, the tail struggled as regular wickets fell and the majority caught at Mid on or off
Fighting hard but without any luck, The 3's Innings came to a close at 120 all out in the 30th over.
Result: Lost by 54 Runs
4th XI | Friendly | Away at Droylsden CC |
Droylsden won the toss and chose to have Elton bat first. The 4s got started and No.2 George Smith set the tempo early, cracking 23 off just 17 balls to help get the innings off to a flying start as the opening partnership with Al Stephens put on 44 inside the first 12 overs before Smith departed, bowled. The second top scorer in Al Stephens was strong, scoring 33 off of 55 balls as he formed a 26 run partnership with Skipper James Richardson.
Wickets fell around him, but James stood firm, Coming to the crease at 58/2, Richardson produced a captain's knock of 76 not out off 105 balls, stroking 11 fours and anchoring virtually every meaningful stand of the innings. His 56-run fourth wicket stand with Ibrahim Hashmi (12) across roughly 10 overs put Elton well ahead in the 1st innings, and when Tom Frost arrived at the crease later on, the pair combined for a blistering 45-run partnership in approximately 7 overs, before Frost retired not out after quickfire 17 off 11 balls.
The 4's posted a strong 211/6 off 40 overs.
Chasing 212 to win, Droylsden never really got going. Caitlyn Hunter was strong with the new ball, taking the 1st wicket at 10/1 and then removing the Droylsden Keeper 2nd ball and No.3 after he had amassed 13, all bowled as the stumps suffered a battering.
The hosts' best stand was a 23-run effort between No.3 and No.4 but when that ended at 44/3, the air left the fire and the innings came to a crawl.
Ibrahim Hashmi delivered a devastating burst of 3/5 off 3 overs, coming left arm over the wicket and utilising potent inswinging yorkers as he he hit the stumps repeatedly, 3 times wickets in the space of just two runs to reduce Droylsden to 46/6.
Luke Bussell finished the job with his spin, snaring 3/9 off 3.4 overs including a maiden to sweep up the tail. Droylsden were bowled out for just 75 in the 27th over, bringing to an end the friendly.
