Senpai Kai Nixon had his Shodan Grading where his knowledge was tested , his teaching was tested , his techinque was tested , his kata was tested ( 90 % Of the syllabus) his stamina and drive was tested , his spirit was tested , his fitness was tested and his fighting was tested with 20 continous fights ..
He will make an exellent , Spirited, knowledgeable , and respected So-kyokushin Kuro Obi asssistsnt instructor at our Honbu .

A night of Kihon Kata and some stretching with visitors from Mirai Dojo , Ashley Gendek and his son enjoyed our company as we enjoyed theirs .

When i see so many versions of the same kata and then I see somebody running a standardisation kata course I wonder to what standard are they going to go ???
Its usualy for competiion purposes I presume .
In many cases i would love to see the very original version so I could make my own mind up as to what is correct .
Many times ,even within a single style there are variations ( probably because someone didnt attend the course where the changes were made) and when the change is challenged they are told 'This is the way we are doing it now " !!!
No wonder some of the original "Bunkai " will not work and when they try to maintain that strict kihon postures it certanly does not work.( unless there is "compliant" UKE)
But thats not to say I dont enjoy Kihon and Kata because I love it
It allows me to unload stress and anger and make sure I keep posture and balance which are essential in any form of Kumite ,not just competition style .
Many kata use two handed manouvers and that insinuates close quater grappling and therefore the footwork can lead to sweeps, takedowns and moving around the opponant .
Many years ago I had a very senior instructor tell me that he changes bits in kata to keep people on their toes , keep coming to courses and so keep students alert .
Kata is a "whole" thing but full of very important little things .
I would love to see what has been added and taken away from many kata .
